Round ball extraction from my Lyman GP pistol.

I'm tired of looking for the patch downrange so I can reuse it anyway. I'll try a new one. Got it cleared by cleaning and putting some powder under the nipple numerous times. Not certain which attempt even cleared it so the powder must have been pretty damp.

Round ball extraction from my Lyman GP pistol.

Appreciate it guys. I thought the breech plug looked permanent. That's what I stopped. I have pulled the nipple and cleaned it. I will do as you say and probe further to make sure ignition is getting all the way to the chamber. Thanks

Round ball extraction from my Lyman GP pistol.

Lyman GPP pistol failed to fire first round yesterday. After ensuring the nipple was clear, I attempted to fire, wasting about 8 more caps. I removed the barrel but was unsure how to remove the breechplug. Instruction manual isn't clear. Rather than screw up the bluing while experimenting...

    Quality pistol accessories

A fixed small charger I can cut down would be fine. If anyone has a particular part number it would help. I am looking online and can't really figure out what I need to buy. Nothing that would work for a pistol seems to be available locally. The empty cartridge method would be good too, but...

    Traditions Muzzleloaders

I'm surprised Traditions doesn't make a "Genuine Crockett" mossy oak thumbhole stock.

    Traditions Muzzleloaders

Absolutely! Exactly what I was pondering a few months ago. I ended up with a Traditions Pursuit. Thumbhole mossy oak stock, "nickel" coated barrel and a cheap scope for $229. Functions smooth and no misfires. Appearance wise, they look like a step up from the lowend CVAs to me. All I...

    Quality pistol accessories

Just received my Lyman Plains pistol. And really, really liking it BTW. You guys were right, it shoots pretty straight (in the hands of a guy who is no pistol marksman). I am currently trying to load the pistol using cheapo accessories from a CVA rifle starter kit I purchased on closeout. I...

Breaking in a new Lyman Plains Pistol

Appreciate all the info guys. I ordered some .490 ball and a couple different type patches in the .015 range. I'll be careful not to bust the grip if it's too tight.

Breaking in a new Lyman Plains Pistol

I am very new to ML rifles, and have zero experience with A ML pistol. I have a new Lyman .50 cal pistol ordered. I will read the instructions of course, but am curious if anyone has advice to offer while I attempt to dial it in for accuracy. Recommended powder charge, ball, patch etc? My...

    Greetings from Iowa

Howdy from the Midwest. I'm new to ML and current have two new 50 cal guns. A Lyman Plains pistol is ordered and a new Traditions Pursuit rifle I have only fired 20 rounds through. Want to buy a non-modern gun but was overwhelmed by my lack of knowledge so I thought I better delay that...
