    Fancy barrel crown question.

I'm finishing up a gun I've been working on for a while and I wanted to add a bit of flare to it. I've seen fancy file work on original guns but i hardly ever see modern builders do it. Here are some examples. I was just wondering if anyone had given this a shot or had a reason for...

Pedersoli flintlock .45 Cal Mystery rifle

Ya it's too bad because I would love to have a .45 cal flint. I did get a few flints small enugh to work but it's still not a lot of sparks. It's flints are also tiny. I mean like the smallest flints I have ever seen. I have a feeling I'll sell it to put money towards a fowler.

Pedersoli flintlock .45 Cal Mystery rifle

I've always wanted to try hardening one myself but I'm afraid i don't have the proper tools. I might pick up a small propane forge eventually and give it a shot. Till then I'll just send it to a blacksmith that knows what they are doing.

Pedersoli flintlock .45 Cal Mystery rifle

I can tune a lock no problem. That's way simpler then what I do with lever guns. However like you said there is only so much you can do on such a small lock. Also I think the pan is soft so I would have to have someone harden it. The main spring is also kinda weak as well so that doesn't help...

Pedersoli flintlock .45 Cal Mystery rifle

Well I know a blacksmith that is only about 45 minutes away. So I might ba able to get him to harden it for me. I'm more concerned about the lock geography on it. The flint has to be tiny for it to even work properly. I'm strongly considering putting a new lock on it just because of that. I've...

Pedersoli flintlock .45 Cal Mystery rifle

Who can make a replacement lock? I'd certainly like to get one that sparks better. Edit: Think I found the one you are talking about on Track of the wolf.

Pedersoli flintlock .45 Cal Mystery rifle

So I was in my friends shop yesterday and a guy came in looking to sell a rifle he had for whatever he could get. It had a bit of rust and i didn't know anything about it so I threw out $125. He took the offer but i don't know which of us got the deal. Turns out It's some sort of Pedersoli but...

    Cabin project.

Wow that's a lot of good responses! I'll have to get back when I'm not at work but just a few clarifications. I live in Ohio and the farm is 45 minutes away in Pa so anything that isn't good in cold wet miserable conditions is out. I'm actually pretty good at woodworking and have wanted to...

    Cabin project.

I'm very seriously considering building a small cabin in my woods. Mostly as a project to play around with primitive woodworking and have a place to camp without messing with a tent. Not sure if I'm going to do it on my property with ten acres or the family farm with one hundred acres. Probably...

    Dueling: Weapons and history.

I did a video discussing Dueling and the different black powder firearms used. Thought it might interest people here. In case you were interested in the firearms i used in the video. 1.)French Heavy Dragoon- .54 caliber round ball with tow over & under ball wadding and 30 grains of FFF Goex...

Track of the wolf's "Lewis & Clark" Trade Knife

O I like that one. I'd definitely pay $15 for that.

Track of the wolf's "Lewis & Clark" Trade Knife

I wish I had more time to make my own. I have all the tools and I use to do it but no time with work. I'm learning a little leather working but that's about all I have time for. It took me an hour to stitch that little sheath so I'm not very good yet. :haha:

Track of the wolf's "Lewis & Clark" Trade Knife

I'm not going to send it back at this point. I've modified it enough that I'm fine with with it. I did take a picture of it before hand. In fact I did a video on before and after but my computer self destructed and I lost a lot of video. The bluing looked very bad on this one. It looked...

Track of the wolf's "Lewis & Clark" Trade Knife

So I picked up one of Track of the Wolf's trade knives a few months ago and I was a bit disappointed in it. I don't want to come off as speaking bad about track of the wolf because i think they are a great company. I just bough a horn from them that I am very happy with. However i think they...

Black powder power and sword use.

I keeps seeing people perpetuating the myth that black powder guns were weak and inacurate. Now i can deal with the inacurat comments becuse it's a relative term and depends on what we are talking about. However the idea that they are/were weak is ridiculous. I've seen it even said by people...

    Miniature cannon idea

Well my range has a large backstop and past that is 100 acres of woods so it should be fine. I'm normal more concerned with ricochets since there is a cattle farm about 300 yards to the left of the range.

    Miniature cannon idea

So I've over the last year and a half I've added three flintlock pistols, a hawken .54 cal percussion, two c&b revolvers, and a little derringer to my collection. I'm also ordering a 20 ga fusil-de-chasse kit soon. Now I think it's time to look into something I've wanted since I was a little...

Powder Load testing in the Remington 1858

I acutely just didn't think to use the same cylinder. I get the same results with both of them normally but I'll do it with one next time. As for getting the ball closer to the chamber I'll see if i can back fill it with something. I hear cream of wheat works well for that. I'll give it another...
