    Bend the sear bar up?

Back in the 70s I was building my second rifle using a lock by Doc Haddaway and had the same problem. Tried to bend the sear. SNAP! Wrote to Doc and he sent me a new one with the advice to grind it if possible and how to anneal it if necessary.

    What would you build?

I buillt this in 2018 using one of Jerry Cunninghams Montana barrels I had since 1978 along with the stock. 35" x 7/8 x .50. L&R Durs Egg lock, captured wedge. If I were to do it again I'd use walnut and profile the butt differently along with an English butt plate. Fore end tip is buffalo...

    Do you gut your deer?

I always gut deer before moving them. If it's cold I hang it overnight. I use a small local processor who I trust to keep each deer separate. I've watched him so I know he does. When my daughter started hunting with me I taught her to do the same thing. This year was my last hunt with her...

    Opening the ramrod thimbles

I taper my rods anyway. If using a 3/8ths rod I'll sand and taper it to 5/16ths on the other end. Keeps the rod from sticking in the thimbles when it's humid. Yes, it's a boring job. I just suck it up because the end result is worth it.

    Times change

My wife's grandmother was born in 1891 on the family farm in Fayette Co Pennsylvania. Her family were Fazenbakers whose farm later became Fort Necessity National Battlefield. Grandma Annie Belle used to tell us of driving in a horse and buggy with her mother down off the Chestnut Ridge to...

    Ballistol

If you don't like it, don't use it. I worked a job one time next to a rendering plant. That cured me forever of whining about smells. I like it, been using it for over 30 years. I also put it on mosquito bites to relieve the itch.

    Wood from Bradford Pear

We had 2 Bradford pears in our yard that came down in a windstorm. Saved me the trouble of taking them down. The root system is very hardy. Even after having the stumps ground one of them kept sending up shoots for 4 years some as far as 10 feet from the trunk. I had to continously kill them and...

    Stuck

I have a 20 ga NWTG bought in the late 70's. I've always used a .58 jag for cleaning. Never had a patch stick nor pull off. YMMV.

    8/32 to 10/32 adapter

That's true if you have a way to center the rod under the quill. I've done it using a piece of angle iron.

    8/32 to 10/32 adapter

I made my own when I was still working. Not hard if you have a lathe, I was a lathe operator. 1/4" or 5/16" brass rod 1" long. Drill a hole for the 8/32, I forget the drill number, all the way through. Dril the hole for the 10/32 halfway through. Use the proper tap for each side, use lots of...
