    'Shot' by a Baby Paterson.

I can tell you how thick the glass is on an old tv picture tube and that when shot from a few feet away it explodes rather than implodes. Don't ask me how I know this. By the way that was a good story with a lesson in it to be learned. Nice revolvers also.

    Stuck Ball Progress

There is no name or writing on the rifle and it will be a wall hanger. Thanks to all for the good advise. Now back to shooting my Navy Arms 1851 Navies. They are fun and safe.

    Stuck Ball Progress

If you are telling me that I can perhaps remove this breech plug by screwing it out and that it is not actually welded in that would be great. I will try to screw it out, nothing to lose at this point. A report will follow. By the way guys thanks for all your comments and opinions.

    Stuck Ball Progress

It is a very good thing that I like a challenge and am not a quitter. I got a "poly patch" out using the rod and screw, but there was another "poly patch" and it wouldn't come out, so I put the rod in a cordless drill and tried to pull it. Well, the rod broke off inside the barrel. The barrel...

    ball stuck

Ok guys, the project has begun. The rifle is taken apart and the barrel has been soaked for three days with lube. I got a hanger bolt and went down the barrel, well out came a plastic object that is concave on both ends. It is hard plastic about .5" long. Now I am hitting a second one and am...

    ball stuck

I didn't buy it, but rather it was given to me by a dude with red hair, bushy eye brows, and lots of hair growing out of his ears and nose. He said he bought it from a cowboy in North Texas for $200.00 that told him it had never been fired. :surrender: :rotf: I am going to work on getting...

    Range Day With Grandson

As I mentioned in "New Revolvers" I am new to BP and just purchased two .36 cal. 1851 Navy revolvers that my grandson and I are going to shoot together. Well, today was the day and he did great. We shot at 25' and my grandson, age 10, kept eight out of 12 in a 5.5" circle. We then moved to...

    ball stuck

I was given a rifle which has a ball stuck about halfway down the barrel. My local dealer told me the tool (screw that go on cleaning rod) he sells will not work and that I should pay him $20.00 to remove the ball. My question: How would you all proceed with this repair. I don't know if...

    New revolvers

    The load was 15g.

    New revolvers

Today was the test before I take my grandson this Saturday. I found that it shoots 10" high at 25ft. but dead on rather than right or left. After determining this I was able to place 24 rounds in a four inch group at 25ft. I just had to aim 10" below 6 o'clock to hit the center of the target...

    New revolvers

Thanks all for the advise, it is appreciated and will be heeded. By the way my thirteen year old granddaughter is my best fishing buddy and she wants to shoot BP also. She liked the stories I told her about Cantrell's Raiders. Both of these kids are enrolled in our gun clubs NRA Rifle...

    New to blackpowder weapons

That was the technical info I was looking for Jim, thank you very much. I didn't know that the replicas were not built the same as the originals and just couldn't imagine that people didn't load all cylinders during the civil war and the years after during the settling of the west. This is...

    New to blackpowder weapons

As mentioned on a previous post, "New Revolvers", I just bought two Navy Arms 1851 Navy revolvers. I was told not to put a cap on the cylinder under the hammer as this would prevent AD's. Now for my question: why not just carry at half cock since the trigger can't be pulled until the hammer...

    New revolvers

I plan to take the first shots from 25 yards at a slow fire target, (B-16) with 5.5 inch bullseye. I have no idea how this will work out, but that is the plan. I got my beeswax today. An old beekeeper sold me 5.25 lbs. for $4.50 per lb. I made up an ounce and put it in a Kiwi shoe polish...

    New revolvers

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try. I will be visiting your mountains the last week of October. I hope the leaves are in color. After the mountains we will spend four days at New Bern. We really enjoy the back roads on N.C.

    New revolvers

Thanks for the welcome. My plan is to mix the beeswax 50%, lard 40%, and olive oil 10%. What do you think, well this work?

    New revolvers

My grandson is ten and has been shooting .22 rifle and revolver with me for a year now. He has completed his NRA safety course and got to shoot a .50 cal muzzle loader a couple of weeks ago. I bought two Navy Arms 1851 Navy in 36 cal. and am going to shoot my first black powder with my...
