    first build tang/barrel question

Fred, I checked out some other southern mountain rifles and man are you ever right! Some tangs are 6" long on these rifles. I'm thinking cutting it would have been the wrong thing to do, thank you for the info, kept me from making a mistake and is very much appreciated! -Mike

    first build tang/barrel question

Hello all, Well, just started, and already have a couple question  The barrel channel was pre-carved on my stock, but where the breech meets the stock was carved round for some reason (maybe this is always the way, like I said.. first timer here). So in order to square it I had to...

    Hot water for cleaning

New to all this guys, but I can say this. I use the hot water and soap method to clean my barrel. My water is well and very sulpheric. It does run through a softner and filter before getting to the tap and as of yet, I've not had an issue with the flash rust so maybe your onto something with...

    First build

All, Thanks for all the advice! I talked to Ray at Sitting Fox today, and sent my MO for a K43 Southern Mountain Poor Boy! I'm having them inlet the lock for me as well as cut the dovetails for the sights, install the barrel lugs, and install the breech plug. I'll let you all know once it...

    TOW stock wait

Hey all, just saw this post and was wondering if the stock when ordered showed "in stock"? I'm looking at their Leman rifle and says the stock is in stock, but want to make sure that is true! I REALLY don't want to wait 6 months for the stock. Thanks all, Mike

    .32 sighting in

Hi all, I sighted in today finally and couldn't be happier! Sighted in for 25 yrds with a .310 ball, .010 patch and 20 grains of powder so far, at 25 all holes are touching just above the bull and at 50 yards just below! Squirrels beware! Thanks again all! Mike

I'm really loving this site, so many nice folks and all willing to offer their knowledge.. it can be a tough thing to find now a days and it's very much appreciated. thanks...

    First build

Thank you all for your replies! I'm going to go for it then.. I'm looking at track of the wolf as well, and the Leman has caught my eye as well now.. I ordered my inletting chisels from them and some files and the book recommended earlier as well ("the modern kentucky rifle"). I actually have...

    First build

Hi all, I'm sure this kind of question is asked here all the time, but I've just been looking around for a rifle to build this year for next fall. This will be my first build, so at first I was thinking a Traditions or Lyman, but I'm REALLY partial to the Sitting Fox K45 Southern Mountain Poor...

    .32 sighting in

Thank you all! We had a pretty good snow storm up here this week and my new crockett got diverted to syracuse and won't get here until Monday now! Gives me time to think about what you have all said.. just pains me to think my new baby is sitting in some cold warehouse all weekend!

    .32 sighting in

That makes a lot of sense.. I was actually considering 25 yards as well just because that's probably a much more common range on small game for me.. 35 would split the difference nicely. thanks for the advice!

    .32 sighting in

Hi all, New here, and new to muzzleloading! I just bought a .32 crockett rifle and am getting ready to sight in this weekend (very excited)! I'm trying to figure out what range to zero the rifle at. I'm going to be hunting squirrels and rabbits with it if that helps. I'm guessing 50 yards...

    Hi all!

Thanks guys, and nice to meet both of you! I'm just outside the town of Corfu (right near Darien Lake). I figured the .32 would be a nice way to start, and give me a little hunting time on the small game once I get it dialed in. I took a nice buck with my recurve this year, so not in a big...

Hello all, Just found this site and joined today! I'm a long time traditional archer/hunter, and am just getting into blackpowder so I really know nothing! I just bought a little .32 traditions rifle for the squirrels and rabbits so I'm pretty pumped. Can't wait to get educated by you all...
