    Don't use wood ramrods!

About 10 years ago a friend of mine told me that a large hickory tree blew over in his yard and wanted to know if I would clean it up for him and he would just give me the wood for firewood. I went over to his house to cut it up and noticed it was the straightest hickory tree I ever saw, not a...

    Kentucky Pistol Kit

Thanks guys. I'm sort of thinking Dixon's will be my best bet at finding all the pieces I'll need. I saw where TOW had a bunch of pistol parts in Nickle Silver, (thus my question about nickle and german silver), so if I can't find it at Dixon's I might be able to get some pieces from TOW. As for...

    Kentucky Pistol Kit

I've been searching the internet for "kit" suppliers for a Kentucky Pistol with german silver hardware to match the rifle that I built. I'm not having too much success in finding a pistol kit in 54 cal. with german silver hardware. Is this something I'm going to have to just buy all the...

    Pistol stock blanks

Was cutting up some maple for firewood and discovered some pieces that had some nice curl in it. I always wanted to make a "Kentucky Style" pistol and would like to make some rough blanks out of some of this wood. What are the dimensions of a rough cut blank for a Kentucky style pistol? Width...

    Thompson Center Flint hawkin

Built a 50 cal T/C Hawkens from a kit in the early 70's. Used it until about 3 years ago when I built a Lancaster 54. Was very reliable and never had any issues with it. Wouldn't even begin to guess how many PRB's I shot out of it. It also shot maxi balls well. As far as price, condition would...

    Ball/Bullet trap

Been wanting to build some type of ball/bullet trap to help recover some of the lead I've been depositing in the dirt bank out back. Was going to make something out of steel plate and was wondering if any of you guys have ever made one. Thickness of plate used and a few pics of what you made...

Does cold smoking cure the meat to the point where nothing else is done to it to consume it? Or do you still have to cook it to consume?

    Patch thickness

Could be from a bunch of different suppliers. If you want to know the thickness find some one that reloads they will usually have a micrometer can use it to mic the thickness of the patches.

    Shooting shot

Thanks Capt. And I'm sure the rate of twist would have a lot to do with how fast it opens up the shot pattern. Just curious and thought there was no harm in asking.
