Thinking of going with a TVM kit. However, he will cut off a bit of the price by including a stock blank.

So basically how are his parts.

I forgot to ask him who makes his barrels.

They usually offer a builders kit for 499 without the inletted stock. There kits are good quality, but if your not experience I would get the basic kits with inletting 90% done already. I have only built their guns using steel parts because thats the look I perfer but no issue with the quality at all.

Depending on "which kit" you are talking about the lock could be a Chambers, Davis or L&R.

Ditto the triggers - Davis or L&R.

Again, depending on the kit I find their other furniture kinda "generic" so ok if you want to build a Lancaster for example, but not if you want to build a specific "Lancaster builder".

You would have to ask specifically what barrel they are going to send you. I have bought "left-overs" from them and know that they have got Goodoien and deHaas barrels in the past.

Others just based on length and profile could have come from Oregon or Burton and they definitely use a lot of Colerain's "off the shelf" with Rice being a special order at additional cost.

With most of the rifles TVM is doing now, it's probably a Colerain unless you ask for something different.

I am going for the steel parts. Not quite sure which one I am going for.

I prefer a more flatter stock and less curved buttplate.

Definitely want a full length stock.

I noticed they come with a steel ramrod end. I will likely replace it with a brass one. I just envision excessive barrel damage from the steel over time.

Do yourself a huge favor and use the ramrod for loading for hunting only and use a steal range rod for loading and cleaning, with a brass guide. This will eliminate broken rods, pulled off jags, or ends, and it makes it so much easier for the 35-40 dollar investment i hate myself for not buying one 10 years ago. i now have one with the jag for every caliber I have.

If ya love the steel look and a wide flat butt plate look at their early va rifle its a great gun, and HC/PC more than a lancaster in steel would be. But the iron PA rifle is a nice kit too.

I'm so old...when I got my TVM kit, it has a GM barrel...
I was/am very happy with my 50cal version.

Built a Lancaster 54 cal. from a TVM kit.
Barrel was a Green Mountain
Lock was a Siler
Trigger was a Davis
Hardware was German Silver
Took me about a year to finish it (part time project). Shoots really good.

I ordered a 36" 45 cal Early virgina from TVM today. They said it will be a few weeks.

Large siler lock LH, single trigger, steel furniture, and dovetail tennons instead of staked-on ones.

He talked me into a started stock instead of a blank. Ramrod and trigger channel completed and stock shaped roughed out.
