    Bridle on lock

I have read about some locks having a bridle and some being unbridled. My question is , where is the bridle on a lock and what purpose does it serve? :hmm:

2nd Trip to Range Much better experience than 1st

My pan did not ignite a couple times but I had several flash in the pan. I bought some english flints from TOW and started out with them, I then switched back to the flint that came with the rifle with better results. It looks like the flint is hitting a little below the halfway point on the...

2nd Trip to Range Much better experience than 1st

I took my GPR out for the first time this weekend. It was fun but trying at times as I had several flash in the pan only. I also had the same problem as you, I had sparks but the powder in the pan did not ignite. I am going to drill my touch hole to 1/16th. I also found out I need to wear a hat...

    GPR barrel break in

I just finished putting together a GPR flintlock rifle kit. I am going to take it to the range this weekend. I have read posting on this board saying that you can not expect decent accuracy until you have about 200 rounds through the barrel. Is this true or just a commonly told myth? I cant...

    Building another GPR

I just noticed your nickname. I used to live in Arizona, Phoenix and Apache Junction. I hiked up to the top of Shiprock several times. I miss the spring beauty of the desert. Does your nickname have to do with the Superstition Mountains?

    Building another GPR

I built a .54 caliber GPR flintlock and refinished my .50 caliber GPR percussion. I used Tru-Oil which puts a high sheen finish on the wood, I let them dry for a couple days and then used 0000 steel wool to remove the sheen and they came out with a nice satin finish.

    Lyman trade gun stock reshape

I built a GPR kit a couple months ago and I reshaped the cheek piece exactly like yours. I like the look of the earlier style cheek for my flintlock. I finished the stock without adding any stain to the walnut and used Tru-Oil, I like the lighter walnut as opposed to the dark walnut finish that...

    loose GPR sights

The only PC super glue I know of is pine wood sap. I had'nt thought of peening the inside angle of the dovetail, I have read that peening the flat makes a gap between the sight and the barrel. Thanks.

    loose GPR sights

I have a .50 caliber percussion GPR that I bought already built that came with the adjustable rear sight on it. I replaced the adjustable sight to the buckhorn sight. I just finished a .54 caliber GPR flintlock kit and I installed the buckhorn sight. My problem is that the buckhorn sights on...

Browning A Barrel and Parts Help

Glad you are happy with the results of your work. I bet you end up browning all the parts now that you know how easy it is. I saw where you said you squeeze the LMF out of your application rag, I have found cotton balls work great because you can control the amount you need by putting the cotton...

Browning A Barrel and Parts Help

I'm not far behind you in the building of my GPR flintlock. I have about five coatings of LMF applied so far this weekend and will continue probably for a couple more days. The coarse cloth works well for me too. Using LMF the first few coats you think your metal will turn out like a lemon but...

Browning A Barrel and Parts Help

I have used LMF with great success. Since I have never browned gun metal I first tried it out on an old Daisy Red Ryder. I did this in early December when the humidity where I live is lower. I too had a greyish color and made the mistake of rubbing it where the sight and loading port is to try...

    GPR lock disassembly

I am going to brown my GPR flintlock because the fake color cased hardening on the lock is not well covered over the entire lock. I left the hardening color on my percussion lock when I browned the metal on my GPR percussion rifle and it is a nice contrast to the rest of the browned parts. I...

small threaded hole in GPR tang

Thanks. I think I will order some flints also from TOTW while I am on their site. The flint that came with my GPR looks like some synthetic man made stone.

small threaded hole in GPR tang

I finished sanding my stock today and I applied Tru-oil to the stock without any stain. It darkened up some what but nothing near the color they come with from the factory. I like it but I should warn that the blond colored wood grain in walnut does not darken much and does somewhat stand out a...

small threaded hole in GPR tang

I looked through the manual and saw a peep sight for these rifles. I should have figured that was what the hole is for. So far the kit is coming together nicely. They come with alot of extra wood but I was really impressed with how precise the inletting is. I squared off the rounded cheek piece...

small threaded hole in GPR tang

Hello to all, I purchased a flintlock GPR kit and I noticed a small threaded hole in the middle of my tang. I also have a GPR percussion rifle that I purchased a couple years ago that came already finished and it has a plug screw in this hole, my kit did not come with this plug screw. Does...
