    Research question

I was at an antique show today and came across what might have been a Missouri River Hawken. It was really rough. Someone had painted the barrel at one time and the action was frozen. It looked like perhaps the lock had been replaced at one time. I don't know enough about them to really...

Price of Uberti worth the expense?

I don't think anything about it is funny. I know exactly what you mean. I was at an antique show today and came across what might have been a Missouri River Hawken. It was really rough. Someone had painted the barrel at one time and the action was froze. "Please save me" it cried out when I...

    Accuracy with a Navy 1851

That's nice shooting at 25 yds. What kind/caliber of revolver?

    Accuracy with a Navy 1851

Thanks, I always try to hit what I aim at  That said, I'm not sure whether I could repeat it and it was 20yds not 25. I've never heard of the the Nationals at Friendship. Is this the NMLRA? If so, I just found it on Google. It looks like it would be fun and challenging.

Thanks and loving it here. Now if I can find some real BP instead of Pyrodex....

    Accuracy with a Navy 1851

Isn't it though! I just got my 1st BP .44 remington army w/ 5.5" brl. My first group from the gun was inside a 2.5" circle at 20 yds. That was loading powder, wad, ball, grease. It was an inch left and an inch down from Point Of Aim with a 24g load of Pyrodex P. I put 40 rds through it the...

Question on assembly of 1858 remy

Zonie, That is exactly what it is doing. Apparently when the gun was new, before firing and disassembly it was tighter and the clicks (2&3 or 3&4) came much closer together where I didn't notice them. The marks on the cylinder (about 1/8" before the lugs) have started. So if this is normal...

Question on assembly of 1858 remy

No, no binding of the cylinder, trigger or hammer. It appears to be when and how forcefully the bolt locks up the cylinder. I thought I had it when I started adjusting the trigger/bolt spring but I can't quit get it. The bolt seems to either come up and hit the cyclinder early (at least the...

Question on assembly of 1858 remy

I started 'fiddling' and found that by adjusting the trigger/bolt spring I can adjust most of it out. When the spring screw is tightened completely the 2nd half cock occurs approximately half way between half cock and full cock. When the screw is loosened a half turn the cylinder won't lock at...

Question on assembly of 1858 remy

Shot my new .44 yesterday and had a blast. Then came the cleaning... not as much fun but still enjoyable. Then came re-assembling it. Everything seemed to go well but now it seems to have TWO half-cocked positions. The first position functions normally. In the second position, the bolt...

    Gift certificate dilemma

Let us know how it shoots when you get it. I just took my 58 remy w/ 5.5" brl (uberti) out yesterday for the first time (my 1st bp gun). Put 40 rounds through her and absolutely love her. First group out of the box was 2.5" at 20 yds off hand. I think she's a keeper! :haha:

    BP substitutes ?

My apologies if this has been asked before or is in the wrong area... All of the different BP substitutes have me confused. My new Uberti 1858 44. Remington recommends 24 grains of BP. Any opinions on what brand/type of powder to use? If you use any of the 'hotter' substitutes that say use...

    Looking for opinions on brand

Thanks for the info guys!!! I drove out to Taylors today and I was like a kid in a candy store!!! Besides all the handguns, there were more Henrys, Spencers, Winchesters and Sharps than you shake a stick at. Most by Uberti, some Chiappa and a few Pedersoli. I had decided that I wanted a .44...

    Looking for opinions on brand

I'm just getting started in BP. I've been looking at the Ubertis, Piettas, Cimarrons and now the Taylors. There seem to be some sales right now at Cabela's and Dixie. I've heard different things about Cimarron. Some good, some that they leave the inners alone and only touch up the exterior...

    Hey from Northern Virginia

I had my first experience with BP a couple of weeks ago and I think I might be hooked. I started shooting when I was 12 (Daisy air rifle), went through the hunting stage (.22, 16g, 12g, 30.06, 7mm mag) and did 21+ years in the army (M16, M1911A1, M9). Didn't have much time after I got out...
