    .570 or .575 Round Ball

yep, .562 are just a dream in my Mountain Rifle. Actually, I was able to find an owner's manual, and that ball was actually recommended...

    Flintlock Mountain Rifle

I'm late in the game on this thread, but I happen to own two. A .54 and a .58 (p.s. - serial numbers #1, and #2 respectively). So, I guess they did, at least for a short time.... :hatsoff:

    an interesting "score"...

A friend sent me a link, as they were listed on a forum that sells more "EBGs" than anything else. The seller is the son of the original owner. He inherited them, and wasn't interested in keeping them. The price he sold them for was silly low (likely I got all three for less than the value of...

    an interesting "score"...

I've been out of here for quite a bit of time, but not away from my BP guns. Just needing to take a moment to gloat a bit... :stir: Through some twist of luck, I just took ownership of 3 guns... CVA Mountain Big Bore .58 Flint (brass nose cap, brass hardware, no patch box) CVA Mountain Big...

Can't see front sight in low light

this may sound silly, but we have done it on bead sights. Paint the back edge with the liquid correction paint that you use for old style type corrections.

When did Cabelas make a .58 Hawkin?

I came across a Cabela's "Hawken" (likely Investarms as barrel is Spanish) in .58 at a local hole in the wall shop. Gun is really clean. I've never seen anything by Cabela's over a .54... Anybody know when these were made, and if they are "okay"? I have a CVA .58 Mountain Rifle, and was...

    Western New York Flinters?

Gonz, I'm on Grand Island. Shoot a Lyman GPR/GPH and another flint gun guys don't like to talk about here... If you are near by, you are more than welcome to check it out. I'm a member at GI Rod & Gun, so there is a place to let a few rounds go down range. Good luck. BobW

    Lyman 54Cal Flintlock Garbage

shame you didn't give it a chance. These are pretty good guns. Vent hole is a simple/cheap swap out with some of the aftermarket ones (like RMC), and with just a little playing around (which in my opinion is why we do this stuff or we would all shoot *-lines) it is a reliable gun. I have a...

help me find the Mountain Rifle threrad with the "cut away pics".

That helps, but I was looking for the cut aways that were not from production advertisements. They were a touch "better".

help me find the Mountain Rifle threrad with the "cut away pics".

sorry guys, my searches using ".58" and "CVA" have turned up nothing, and my connection is really bad right now. Can anyone get me a link or a set of the pics of the CVA Mountain Rifle that was "sectioned"? BobW

Ha Ha Ha, It had to happen

Out hunting yesterday in our (New York) last day of the "Late Season" - BP and Archery. Decided on taking the flintlock as I really have wanted to take an animal with it. It had been working pretty well in my range sessions, and when I had done my "ceremonial unload" at the edge of the field...

    TC Firestorm?

Naving almost totaled my beloved "traditional" gun during an 8 hour sit in the pouring rain for the NY deer opener, I didn't hesitate to take out "Frank" (my cousin/hunting partner has dubbed it Frankenstein) in the next foul weather day. I won't waste my time trying to shoot pellets with it as...

good elk charge and expected velocities from a .58

I don't have a lot of technical data, but I just took a whitetail at 70 yards with what I am embarassed to say was a terrible shot (stuff happens - 'nuff said there). In the ham, through the leg bone, ball split, part went through a far side rib and was recovered under hide, and the other part...

    CVA Mt Rifle history revisited

Yep, they were good ones. I've got a .58 (no patch box) that is an absolute hammer. Has been my go-to gun for 4-5 years now. Has a birds-eye maple stock, browned barrel, and mostly browned furnature, except fore the barrel keys and slots. Shows quite a bit of wear and abuse (I am at least...

    PRB's and Fast Twist Barrels

Thanks for the confirmation of what I was thinking. I was asked this from a friend who is recently getting into the traditional BP side of the sport. Wanted to throw it out for some comments. I've been away from the forum for a fair amount of time. Good to see a few names from the past...

Graf Black Powder - new ?

The spouts for Goex will fit the Graff plastic "bottles". Been shooting it for almost 4 years now. Good product, though I am having fouling problems with my .58 and 2F......last foot of the barrel is really crusty after about 4-5 shots. To a point it really become tough to start a ball...
