How much powder for dove load?

For a 12 ga load I like 7/8 to 1 1/8 ounces of shot the Skychief load over by volume using a adjustable measure 1/8 ounce measure less powder 3f or 2 f black than shot. Depending on how birds are flying and average distance. Low and slow less, high and fast more. Here if field has tall timber...

How much powder for dove load?

I found out as a kid birds fly different speeds in different situations and also can be high or low. For me the lead is determined by speed, how high or low and direction it is flying. "I'm" slower with a muzzleloader than modern gun. But I'm slower with my external hammer cartridge guns. Also...

Best basic book on cleaning, loading and firing black powder rifle/shotgun?

Somewhere in this forum you will find answers to questions that when we start shoot the different types of muzzleloaders we don't know to ask. For example "the dry ball" is something that happens at the worst time. Pushing brushes down barrel to find that when you pull the rod the brush is...

    Plugging percussion nipples

I plug nipples with wooden tooth picks. With barrels off gun I fill both with evap o rust and let set a day or two. The evap o rust dissolves all rust. If the barrels leak I clean them good and line to a smaller gauge if I want to use it.

    Pietta Sheriff's model 44 caliber

When I use a ball that fits without shaving much lead mine are easier to load. I shoot reduced loads and the brass frame guns are still as tight as my steel frame guns. Other than a sabertooth chipmunk occasionally I don't hunt so heavy loads not necessary. I love my brass frame guns. My brass...

Why aren’t handles included with some bullet moulds?

Some of us have been doing this for decades and have multiple sets of molds and handles. Saving the cost of another set of handles when buying another mold is nice. Also a mold with handles takes up more space than just mold. Especially with multiple cavity molds. Buying with or without handles...

    Loading cylinders using a press

I started using a press for loading cylinder on a brass frame open top with a short load lever. It was easier to load with than the short load lever. Now I use a press to load all my cylinders. I cap after the cylinder is in gun. To me there is not much difference in the effort required to...
