Loading cylinders using a press

Which press do you use? I have seen the traditions press, which doesn't look very robust, and the powderinc one, which I haven't bought yet. There also seem to be two versions there.

I have the EZE Loader II that Powder, Inc sells. There is a guy on EBay that sells them, too. It's expensive, it's heavy - but it is a fantastic press that works with everything from the smallest .31's to Walkers and Dragoons.

The more expensive one is a bit more versatile, but if all you are going to be loading is the typical Remington 1858 and Colt 1851 - 1861 style revolvers the less expensive one will be more than enough.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to get one at some point I think, even though I have never seen evidence of the brass guns getting out of true. I love my plated and engraved guns from cabelas I got in the 90s, but they are brass underneath.

I also have never seen any hard evidence that loading a brasser the traditional way can damage it, but it does seem plausible. I think it would take a lot of experimentation, time and effort to really know for sure.

In any case, like I said it takes only seconds to remove a cylinder from a revolver, and for me I find it so much easier to use a press over the loading lever.

I started using a press for loading cylinder on a brass frame open top with a short load lever. It was easier to load with than the short load lever. Now I use a press to load all my cylinders. I cap after the cylinder is in gun. To me there is not much difference in the effort required to change cylinders with open top or top strap revolvers. I enjoy shooting the open tops more. Shoot several brass frame guns but limit loads to plinking levels.

This is similar to the presses I bought:
