Looking to blast some wasp nests...

Maybe 30 years ago there was a big nest (well over a foot in dia and at least a foot and a half long) in some bushes near houses and where kids played and a few got stung. After dark and in light rain I jambed a big funnel in the entrance hole and a neighbor pored the gasoline in. he then cut...

    Browning my rifle

I used laurel mountain forge browning solution to brown my short fusil. The barrel went into the shower stall while not in use and the rest of the small parts went in a toaster oven set at 150 degrees with a pan of water in bottom. Came out nice in both cases but the shower stall took days...

    Question about Replacing a Flintlock

Case harden the frizen. Or have some one else do it for you. There are also other ways to repair the soft frizen on those locks. finding a lock to fit exactly is hard.

    cotton ball wads?

I just fired 6 shots using the cotton balls. With just enough around the sides of the ball to provide a little resistance going down and with out lube. I did not find one sign of the cotton after shooting. I need to move the front sight a hair to the left and I did file it down on top as was...

    cotton ball wads?

Has any one tried cotton balls? I just bought a sack of cotton balls with intention of using for 16ga wads. Shot and ball both. Figure I can spread the cotton out around the sides of the ball to hold it in place so it stays on top of the powder. I have a gunparts 16ga .670 barrel and a...

life of a smooth bore flintlock

About 50 years ago I built a cap lock pistol out of used dixie arms parts. Used to shoot rats on banks of missippi river with steel bb's. When I would run out I would scoop up fine gravel and was using toilet paper wads. I was 20 then, I am going to be 73 this summer and still have the gun...

    Carrying a percussion pistol

I intend to make a nipple protector that is safe to dry fire on top of a live cap with the cap not going off. Then to carry, it will have hammer down on it and drop away when cocked. And a tiny chain to trigger guard to prevent loss thus making my "just in case" belly gun safe to carry in the...

    Short fusil

I put this together this winter. 16ga unchambered barrel from numrich, Chambers lock, Track of wolf plans for french fusil, recomended iron furniture. I had to thread the barrel and turn off the extra metal at the breech. john [/img]

    just built .50 bellygun

I thank you billnpatti. That is the best information I could ask for. My patch's were going a few yards further so when I correct I will have to take measures to keep the crony intact. John

    just built .50 bellygun

I am a bit reluctant to get too far back with such a short barrel, I have been known to hit a crony! I could put a long board up so the ball would 'rickoshay' up instead of a direct hit! The barrel I used for the short fusil was $20.45 brand spanking new. I have a link but not sure I can...

    just built .50 bellygun

This is the breech. Holes around nipple are to key into and remove the plug. [/img] This is with the hammer down on a fired #11 rem. cap. [/img] I don't walk well and have always wanted to hunt a pig. My winter project was to put together a light weight fusil. I bought a 16g unchambered...

    just built .50 bellygun

It may not be correct in some peoples minds but compared to a cnc made 1851 in .44 cal what is correct. Welding predates all other forms of joining metals, electric arc was invented early 19th century before percussion caps. I think it was the most fun I ever had building some thing, 3" of...

    just built .50 bellygun

I dc arc welded the sides, barrel, and the key stock spacer together. 1/8" sides and 1/4 key stock, cherryred to case harden trigger and hammer. DC welds don't splater like an AC buzz box or flux wire does, and I covered where I did not want weld with play dough clay. Then it's a matter of...

Slant Head Wedge Key Head Angle Adjustment?

Would probably be good to anneal the brass before pounding on it and might be good to harden it after fitting it the way you want. john

    just built .50 bellygun

Have shot it with 45 grains of bp, 3f and it is a hand full. Will probably up it to an even 50 soon. I proofed it with 80 grains and 2 balls and it all fit! Makes a lot of noise. Barrel is 3 inches. john

    Frizzen bending?

I also would built up the pan as it sounds like that is the problem. You could temporarily build it up with bondo to try, that should last a couple shots and if that works out do it with metal.

    Derringer modern reproduction.

What would you do put 5 grains in each barrel? Making it a 20 grain load going off. Probably would feel the recoil a bit, 20 grains in a light weight gun, course the barrels being short are going to reduce it a lot. I always liked the idea of a belly gun and right now I have coming friday...

    went to a .380 ball

I got my .380 balls at track of w. Not real cheap and I don't shoot enough to get a mold. Never can tell though, tonight it was like I had a different pistol in my hands. Will have to get out in the shop and make a dovetail front sight soon, I am starting to like this gun.

    went to a .380 ball

All I can say is wow. I had been shooting the .375 balls I can get locally and the gun was not accurate. Now it is. I used 15 grains of 3f and filled cyl with corn meal, seated the .380 and it fills cyl just under the top. I had guessed at the amount to raise the front sight, and glued a thin...
