    The Learning Curve

Also, just for my information. Does my Lyman Trade Rifle have a standard or Patent Breech? I'm not really sure, but I think it has a Patent?

That's a small ball and patch, no wonder you don't have a hard time loading. I'm using .530 with .017. It gets really tough to load after 3 shots.

    Antiquing my 1851 Pietta

I used... I left a little brass in places to try and give it a little different look. Unfortunately I did get a little blue in it, so I may re apply on those areas.

Just installed an RMC Touch Hole Liner. We'll see if that helps as well.

    The Learning Curve

Ok thanks. I was using 90% alcohol today. I figured that would dry up fast. I even waited a little bit before loading each time. Hmmm, so you guys are saying it shouldn't be a pan issue then?

    The Learning Curve

Well I had a sweet and sour day at the range today. Started off great. I had drilled my touch hole to 1/16th, Shot 9 times, grouping well, cleaning after every 3 shots. Until.....click...poof...no bang. Picked, reprimed, no boom. Had great spark, touch hole was clear, couldn't get it to fire...

    Antiquing my 1851 Pietta

Probably should have put this on first. This is a standard brass 1851 Pietta Navy .44 Cal

    Lyman Trade Rifle Arrived!

Ah ha, makes sense to plug the touch hole until I prime. So it gets jammed with 2f and won't ignite. I'll try a tooth pick it something. Thanks!

    Lyman Trade Rifle Arrived!

Well, having problems with stock agate flint and touch hole fouling. Had to take out the touch hole and clean it twice today for about 8 shots.

    Lyman Trade Rifle Arrived!

Gotcha, thanks! Didn't have a pan primer and was trying to measure out about 3 grains but wasn't too accurate. Thanks!

    Lyman Trade Rifle Arrived!

Pretty good. Barrel went in pretty good, bluing and brass looks nice, no blemishes. I'm very happy with it so far.

    Lyman Trade Rifle Arrived!

Got to shoot it indoors at my gun club! Turns out their .50 cal max rule doesn't apply to muzzleloaders. Anywho... Used .530 round ball with .015 un lubed patches (spit). Started with 60 grains of goex 2f and it shot a little low. Moved it up to 70 grains and was grouping pretty good. Only at 25...

    Lyman Trade Rifle Arrived!

Got my trade rifle today.... .54 Flint. Shot a couple "pans", stock flint and frizzen worked great. It's raining today so I may have to wait to shoot it though.

    Dragoon Frustration

Ooooh ahhhh, I'll give the goex a try. Thanks!

    "Bluing" Brass

Any way to "Blue" brass or at least make it a dark color? I just don't like brass on firearms and my trade rifle has a bit of it.

    Dragoon Frustration

I've had a Uberti 3rd model Dragoon for a bit now and really enjoy it over all. Never had a misfire, failure to fire, chain fire, nothing. Always goes boom. However the loading lever is driving me crazy. Anything more than 30 grains of 777 will cause the loading lever to drop. It's ridiculous...
