    Speed of lock vs trigger

New shooter here. I have a maslin lock soon to be replaced with an l&r. rifle is damn good as far as I know out to 75 yards. But has a delay offhand that throws off every fifths shot (third), so if I am good 4 out of five (3" group at 75 then a flyer) will a new lock help that much! Meaning...

Second the Dixons Muzzleoader Store, Hamburg, PA has all types of real BP. I am new to flintlocks too, he had all types Goex, Swiss...ect. Very excellent prices for all types of tools for flintlock rifles. Family owned on an old road on an old farm. Owner was as helpful to me as it gets. Took...

How do you clean your gun?

How would you booger up a stock by removing the barrel? By pinned do you mean with one or two wedge pins. Just curious.

    Prime in Pan

Hey thanks that sounds like a great idea. Brass should work.

    Prime in Pan

Thanks the primer has not gone down into the rifle, I checked that, the barrel matches up to the pan tight. I think I do loose alittle primer, when shaken, was thinking of grinding bottom of the frizzen or pan to make a better fit but very hesitant as could make it worse, as angles would change...

How do you clean your gun?

5 gallon drum half full and hot water, squirt of dawn, remove barrel, remove the touch hole liner, patch on jag up up and down, water forced out hole, repeat a couple times, dry patch until dry, them bore butter patch. Rem oil on patch to continue and clean up lock, WD 40, clean pan and lock...

    Prime in Pan

I am sure this has been asked but I could not find it on the search function. How do you keep a reliable charge in the pan while hunting? I shook the rifle at he range and found less reliability - a couple of misfires after shaking the rifle. I assume powder in the pan moves around, I tried...

Not sure what a bevel relates to? Can you expand? Touch hole has a slot for screwdriver and it is pointed at 11 and 5 o'clock because that is where it pointed when tightened. Thanks.

    New Flintlock Hunter Here

Thanks agian to all I really do appreciate people sharing their knowledge and will save me a lot of heartache. I have attached a vid of the ignition below. Looks like an L&R lock in in my future when I can save up enough, they do make a drop in for this muzzy I checked and it is almost as much...

    New Flintlock Hunter Here

Guess I got lucky, After I cleaned out the rust from the barrel with about 12 patches I ran it over to Dixons Muzzleloader shop in PA. He helped tune the lock and checked the barrel and told me the rifling was sharp and had minor pitting in two locations that would not affect the accuracy. He...

I will say the frizzen and flint do not make what I would consider a lot of spark when dry fired, I do get alittle spark not sure if this could be the problem.

    New Flintlock Hunter Here

Yes I noticed the rear of the lock plate is not flush. Would the angle offset the pan alignment I checked and this was not the case. i wonder if it was a kit? The rifle has a lot of "patina" ie. surface rust for a modern replica type flintlock rifle too. Fit and finish at this point in my very...

    New Flintlock Hunter Here

Hello - my first post. I picked up a Conneticut Valley Arms, Mountain Rifle in .54 cal. I took it apart, cleaned it up and shot it yesterday. It has a browned barrel and furniture and a very low serial number. Deos anyone have any information on the rifle? It shoots very well at 50 yards...
