    New rifle

Is that scotchbrite removing metal or just some invisible gumming in a new barrel?

    New rifle

Your not kidding about the rifling. I posted another thread here about the bore tightness on the CBR in .50 caliber. New out of the box I couldn't load a .490 ball with a heavily lubed .015 patch. The same combo loaded fine in my Hatfield .50 which is virtually the same gun. I hope the lands...

    Bore Too Tight?

The T/C patches mic'd at exactly 0.015 when completely compressed. Any source for a good Stainless Steel rod that is at least 46 inches? Im thinking maybe just getting some 3/8" rod from Grainger and drilling and tapping the end.

    Bore Too Tight?

Yeah that variance on the Mic is probably about right. Repeatability is a rough 98%. I only mentioned it was a Harbor Freight micrometer because I know its not 100% accurate and I really wanted to know what the true bore diameter should be. I think what I may be measuring on the round balls is...

    Bore Too Tight?

It is hard to measure inside the bore without falling off the lands. Mic'ed land-to-land the Pedersoli is approximately .493-.496 with 8 lands total. I again used a digital micrometer to make the measurement so it may not be 100% accurate. My Hatfield measures approximately .496-.498...

    Bore Too Tight?

Thanks Jim, I mic'ed the patches and they are about .015 average using a Harbor Freight digital micrometer. I'm guessing that I just need thinner patches or try some .480 balls. I would hate to order an odd ball :youcrazy: because I have a vintage Hatfield in .50 caliber and I have no...

    Bore Too Tight?

I gave my 20 year old son a Pedersoli/Cabelas .50 caliber Blue Ridge rifle for Christmas. We got out to the range to test fire it this morning. Had a problem ramming a patched ball even with a starter. Had to fire unpatched. Need to know if there is a break-in for new barrels or whats is going...
