An Authentic Antique "Cohorn" Pistol in Awesome Condition!

I wouldn't mind shooting it but I would pass on the live grenade. Very interesting firearm.

    midwest reloads

I checked it a while back because I thought the prices were too good to be true. I was also warned not to use them.

    flintlock purchased from friend.

I bet the name is that of the first owner. I have an old CVA rifle with a guy's name engraved on the barrel. You have a very nice rifle there.

Opinions on Pietta 1851 Confederate Navy revolver?

I don't know your exact location but Sportsman's Warehouse has steel 1851's for only a little more than brass. I bought one a few months ago and I like it. Ship to store is free if there is a location nearby. These are made by Pietta - it is stamped on the barrel along with the production date.

Shooting Wooden Bullets? Are they effective?

Marbles work OK in a plastic shot shell wad. I put a card wad under and and one over to keep it from rolling out or melting the wad. Don't ask about accuracy. I'm just playing with a matchlock and if the shot goes towards the target I'm happy. Big bang and lots of smoke.

    Rain down the barrel?

Tape over the muzzle keeps out weather and mud. The air pushed out ahead of the ball or bullet blows the tape away. Some people use balloons or other devices for a cover.

Importance of Shot Placement vs Power

Basically, I always use the rule take your max range your good at on paper then divide it by 2 on game and that's my max distance. I had never heard this rule but it is a good one. I've pretty much been doing this but now I'll make it a rule to follow always. Thanks

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Primers are hot and the tubing seals them to the nipple. It works and they are water resistant, maybe even waterproof.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

I prefer plain wood and metal. No carving or engraving.

    questions about slat canteen

I think Major is right about the rivets. Just file the head off. Good luck getting your new bands tight. There is probably a trick to doing that.

A Pietta parts kit might be good. It's not all that expensive for what you get. https://muzzle-loaders.com/products/pietta-parts-kit-for-1851-navy-1860-army-sheriff-revolvers

Beauty in the eye of the beholder...

Miquelet locks may be a little clunky but if I had that gun I would probably sleep with it.
