    Strange day at the range

Ahhh god ol' Murphy. You never know what rock he's hiding behind, but he's always out there....somewhere! Probably grinning from ear to ear too. ;-)

For the Want of a Wire Coat Hanger

Pick yourself up a spring puller, they're cheap. Cut the handle off and weld a CRS rod between. Now you have a real tool with a hardened hook capable of serious pull for this and any future job that may come along. Between this, and that patent breach/touch-hole issue I'm sure glad I got a...

    Sausages

There's an infinite variety of recipes to try. I include 3 favourites on an old web page of mine (near the bottom). The "Saucisses au Champagne" is tricky to press because it's so slushy but freeze it for several months and then try it and all those flavours will have blended well over that...

    tick treatment

Your linked description reminded me of how bad the unrelenting swarms of mosquitos get up there (driving people insane, forcing caribou to the Arctic, killing bears etc). The legendary "Official bird of Manitoba"!

Where/how can I get a cheap powder horn? I can DIY most of it, I’m not picky.

Thanks for the beautiful PICs. Seeing it from the end my guess is the brass spout tube is soldered around its periphery to the copper end but likely also inset into the "bone hole" inside. It appears the copper end is additionally tacked to the "bone end" (3 places). It's my hope someday to...

Where/how can I get a cheap powder horn? I can DIY most of it, I’m not picky.

I love the look of that priming flask (extreme right). How is the spout held onto the horn? Is it inserted into a wood end plug or drilled into the horn itself? Beautiful color too.

    To my Pre-Flintlock Friends >>>

Ukraine would have nothing to do with it. Poland is a NATO country. FWIW I've been getting items from blacksmiths in the Ukraine no problem. Phenomenal people!

Tell me of your cleaning rituals

Thanks! It's always fun to get several of your hobbies to come together. I spent more time on the design to make it look original yet get all those kits etc to fit nicely in the box than I did actually building the box. To answer your question ...

Tell me of your cleaning rituals

Cleaning goes pretty quick. I go into the shop and fire up the steamer to get it to warm up. It's filled with distilled water for the season. Then I go and slap it down in the workbench I made which holds and - felt lined cradles - protects it while I tap the barrel pins out, remove the...

    Question on small chain connectors?

If it were me, I'd drill a plate with holes and insert bar or bolts the size of the loops and weld on the backside (15min). Hold it in a vise. Then just get the right size wire and bend around in a figure "8". Trim, hammer, dress etc. You could make them 'till the cows come home.

    Flat Horn Flask Project

I just had a shoulder-vise screw (Lee Valley 70G0151) that I was going to use for something else that I changed my mind on kicking around. Figured it was a good use for it. I'm sure your bottle jack will be fine Keep up the great posts! Flat horns are nice.

    Flat Horn Flask Project

FWIW here's one I made for when I get into it. It's made from heavy channel and a screw jack. The channel, where it will contact the horn, is covered with blank PCB material (fiberglass) I had kicking around. The square tube columns are welded to the base and the angle iron top is bolted to the...

    Gun Lost :’(

You said it bother. I got shipped short on a $300 servo-motor kit. Small but crucial part missing. That was back in Oct. After some haranging customer service finally mailed this $5 part in Dec (today's tracking attached). I finally got fed up and I've since gone out in my shop and welded up my...
