    1858s at tractor supply!

I bought one a year ago. I like it. I have a bunch of air guns, pistols and rifles.

    I like it!

    Stock material

Turns out the piece I got is thick enough but not wide enough. My supplier assured me today that he has plenty that is wider than this first piece. He is bringing more.

    Stock material

I have figured out that the plank I got is thick enough for rifle stocks except ones with the thickest, widest cheekrests, (which I dislike anyway). I was told there is/are plenty more available very cheap. The first one was actually free. I was also told that the planks have been sawn for a few...

    Stock material

I got this 10ft piece of maple from someone that we hired to do some work on our house. He saw my rifle above the fireplace and started a conversation. He says this has been cut for "several years". And he says there is plenty more where this came from.

    Thoughts on traditions rocklocks

My only flintlock among my 12-15 muzzleloaders is a Traditions .50 caliber Deerhunter, halfstock. It shoots great. I only shoot patched .490 patched round balls with 70g of real FFF and prime the pan with FFF also. It has never failed to fire for me.

No offence, but I think you're weird. You smoking mushrooms? Lol. Just kidding, of course.

    Brass Black

Watching brass black being used on a brass revolver frame , and I wonder can the black be polished back off later?

Yeah, you're right. So much for doing the math in my head!

Percussion caps ,,get them while you can !!

I bought a tin of 250 today at my favorite local gun shop for $45. I believe that's 2.5 cents each.

    T/C Seneca .36 caliber

My .36 is an unmarked full stock rifle. It seems to like 35g of FFF Goex and store bought, pre cut patches. I don't know the thickness of the patches but I use them in all my guns, except the revolvers of course. I only shoot patched round balls. I think all of my guns are either 1:48 or 1:66...

Beauty in the eye of the beholder...

Another pic off the 'net, identified as Spanish style. According to the info given the miquelet is an early form of flintlock but with parts exposed making for easier repair and maintenance. It also makes for more robust and reliable spark.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder...

I think it's beautiful. And for someone who knows what they're doing it would be less difficult to duplicate than some.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder...

A book I recently saw advertised included this pic. It is a Escopeta Miquelet. The writer said the gun was "ugly but functional". My eyes see nothing ugly here. What about you?

    T/C stock reinforcement

I have heard and read that Thompson Center at one time offered a stock reinforcement kit. I have never seen one or even a photo of one. Can anyone show and/or tell me more about them? Thanks.

    T/C Hawken Cougar?

I had forgotten about the special model Thompson Center Hawken Cougar until just now. Here is a .50 caliber rifle I bought two or three years ago. I figured a previous owner had removed the bluing, but now I wonder...might this be a Cougar? Did all Cougars have the medallion on the stock?
