    Opinions on unmarked .45 rifle

If you study the old Hawken and other snail breech rifles, you notice the outside of snail seems to be flush with the lockplate. All modern rifles the snail overhangs the lockplate.

    Opinions on unmarked .45 rifle

One of the things that says "Contemporary" to me, is the placement of the nipple. Most of the original guns seem to have the nipple a bit closer to the centerline of the barrel. Mostly centered on the outer flat.

    A revelation of sorts...

Been doing this for years. I'm 60+ started with 1.0 readers in my 40s, now wear the 1.0s for distance and 2.5s for reading. Have been know to stack them for extreme close-up work.

    Hy-Hunter Buccaneer parts

You don't say what the caliber is. But if you just want to launch lead, I'd start with 15 grains 4F (Yeah I went there 😁) Then work up to something comfortable to you.

    Dragoons

If the screw holes match, the angled portion can be filed back to line up with the frame. The OP is trying to replicate an early 1st model with the V-spring main.

If you want to use a V-spring squareback guard it only takes a file to remove the angled portion.

    Dragoons

I have both Walker/Whitneyville, and Third model guards in hand. The screw holes and widths differ from one to another.(I compared them) All but one have a serial on them.

    Dragoons

The main dimensions I need are the distance between the frame screw holes.

    Dragoons

Depends on the manufacturer. Some can interchange most probably wont. You say 1st or 2nd, the difference between those are the bolt and locking notches. 2nd and 3rd used the rectangular bolt. Post some pictures with dimensions, I might have a compatible trigger guard. Also manufacturers marks.

    Odd powder drum threads

Three full threads will give full shear strength of the weaker material.

    Odd powder drum threads

It's 9X1.25mm. If the barrel threads are good, call Track or Dixie. If the threads are buggered, do what everybody is saying, run a 10mm tap in and call it good.https://www.engineersedge.com/hardware/metric-external-thread-sizes1.htm

    Colt Army/Navy effectiveness

Based on the date, the "Army" revolver must have been a Dragoon. A 50 grain charge will penetrate a lot of meat.

    Antique Nipple threads

Possibly a #14-28, or the old standard .255-28.

    Charcoal

Mulberry works quite well. I like it better than Willow. Cook it around 280-290*C.

A Question About Selling a Handgun

California is fine. In 2010 they removed the restrictions from "Antique Firearms". Same definition as the Feds.

    .36 or .44?

Slug yer bore. You may need to ream the chambers for larger balls. The chambers should be the same size as the grooves +- a couple thou.
