    Best Animal fat for lube?

They all work. I've used or tried them all and had no bad luck. I now use bear lard only because I have a lot of it. Heard that it was the best, but my guns don't know the difference. They all work, just DO NOT USE BACCON GREASE due to the salt in it.

Hunting loads for my .58 black powder rifle

100 grains, that is the same load I use with a round ball and is seems just fine for elk and bear. But you gotta be yer oun judge.

    Larger Flash Hole

I would say not to do it, but I know an older competition shooter that opened his flash hole. And that man could really shoot. .070 is not out of reason by me. I have only been shooting flinters for a little over 50 years. And its your gun, and you CAN reline the flash hole if you change your mind.

    TRU-OIL problem

I have had mixed results with tru-oil. You can build a box with a 100watt bulb and let dry for about a week. That usually works for stocks that are hard to get dried.

    Rust protection.

I to use bore butter, but not as a patch lube(yes it works fine) as the patches tend to smolder and may start a fire in the woods. I prefer a wet patch to prevent a chance of a fire. I also have not observed a patch smoldering when I use bear fat in my patch lube.

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

I shot flinter all year long, but shot a hand made bow and arrows with napped points that I like to make when I have time.

    Round ball and blood trails

You are correct. But I have been kinda lucky with round balls. Longest shot I have had was with a .45. None of my deer have moved more than about 5 yards. And I admit that is just luck. But I only used the .45 once, I usually use a .54 or a .58.

    Cutting large chunks of lead

Believe it or not, a chainsaw really works great. I have helped cut up lead counter weights that came in 500 pound blocks. Place on a large tarp to collect the shavings. And it doesn't really dull the chain.

Just a note, I have never shot this gun. Sold it to customer back in the late 70's. Now I am selling his estate. I am more into flinters and have only one cap gun, an 1861 Colt musket.

    Musket caps on Amazon.

A customer of mine came to my shop with some REALLY OLD caps, brands and dates from the 1800's. And I am sure they would not work well. He was cleaning out a old barn on his ranch(YONCALLA Oregon). They look pretty good, but a over a hundred years old. I've tried Winchester caps from before 1900...

    Best common household lubricant?

All those work, just don't use petroleum products. Make my own lube but have used other lubes and still did ok and had a good time. Barstal and water are what I use if my bear fat lube is not mixed up and I am in a hurry. Everyone has a lube they like best. Try several and make your own choices...

    Pedersoli woes....

I'm not a fan of Pedersoli, as a gunsmith I have repaired a few of them. But all really only had small issues that if the owners had taken the time, they could have repaired or corrected them selfs. Sometimes even high end guns need some care.
