    Best Animal fat for lube?

I have used olive oil / deer tallow mix with success but am now using raccoon / deer tallow mix. I liked them both and adjusted the mix for thickness according to the predominate weather.

    Different calibers different bags

Even though my 50 cal flintlocks are currently shooting the same load, 70 gr 3f under a 250 gr lee, I'm still a fan of each rifle (or in my case each barrel, I can swap out a 50 cal for a 40 or a 53 smooth bore) having it's own bag.

    Hello from PA

Remember us Pennsylvanians have extra incentive to go flintlock. There is something about sulfur smoke in the snow.

Oppose the Attempt to Ban Lead Ammunition on Federal Lands

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is proposing to ban lead ammunition and fishing tackle on certain federal lands by 2026. The proposed regulation is here: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2022/06/09/2022-12463/2022-2023-station-specific-hunting-and-sport-fishing-regulations...

How do you waterproof a wooden ramrod

Thanks everyone for your answers, I wanted to hear what you all were doing before I did something stupid. Fortunately for me I have some bees wax, tung oil, carnuba wax, Ballistol, True Oil (unless it has dried out), boiled linseed oil, paste wax (maybe not Johnsons), kerosene, and raccoon oil...

How do you waterproof a wooden ramrod

I have a new to me .45 caplock with a wooden ramrod. I went to the range for a short session a few days ago and it was very hot and humid. I use a range rod so the wood rod stayed in its place on the rifle. While cleaning the rifle I probably sloped some water on the rod. Bottom line is when...

    FFL?

I now add $50 to my estimated costs for any muzzle loader I'm interested in from Illinois. I got caught with this problem a few months ago; yep I paid an Illinois FFL to ship to my FFL. My FFL and I just scratched our heads as he handed me the box. No charge from my FFL but we both thought it...

Will #11 CCI work on a ROA?

Sorry for the delay in getting these posted, good old "other duties as assigned". It's just an abused plain jane and yep, they drilled through when they mounted those rifle sights. I shot one cylinder through it before I took the rifle sights off and it felt real good; I haven't put a front...

Will #11 CCI work on a ROA?

Hope you're not expecting a new out of the box example, when I picked this one up it had a set of modern Remington rifle sites on it. I'll try to take a few images tomorrow.

    Greetings from the Banks

Welcome from Central Pennsylvania. I visit Hatteras often and would love to hear some hunting stories from that area. Looks like a good fowler area.

    Stock making

Limb wood has a combination of tension wood and compression wood. The upper half of the limb, as it is growing, produces tension wood because the force of gravity is pulling it down while the limb itself wants to stay up; the closer to horizontal the limb grows the more tension wood produced...

    Glad I found this site

Hello from Central Pennsylvania. I visited your area 15 or so years ago while working on the Cave Creek Fire. Loved the area especially the Frank Lloyd Wright houses I could see from the School Buildings we were using as the Incident Command Post. I grew up close to one of Wright's houses...
