    CANNON QUESTION

Its my understanding (rookie at best) that cannon barrels weren't rifled till about mid American civil war. Is that true? I would have thought someone, somewhere would have tinkered with rifling a barrel when rifling for pistols and shoulder arms became more the norm. Perhaps, it was...

    Started Finishing My Kibler

Well, this week, I started finishing my Kibler Colonial. Some really good sanding being mindful not to get beneath the depth of some of the brass parts or "recurve" any of the surfaces. Used a nice coat Laurel Mountain stock stain and I must say, it's looks pretty dang good. A little light...

    Working brass.

I think I'll shine up the brass when I'm finally done and just let it gae naturally. I'll probably do a cold browning on the barrel.

    Working brass.

That's a very good point. I'm having similar thoughts about keeping the barrel "white" and letting it age. I appreciate your input. -Doc

    Working brass.

Been removing the casting marks on my Kibler Colonial kit brass pieces. After filing, wet sanding they shine and are silk smooth. Now I'm wondering if I should keep the pieces shiny or chemically "antique" them. Im kinda siding with antiquing them. What say yee? -Doc

    Let the Games Begin!!!

I appreciate it. Laurel Mountain Forge is probably the product I'll go with. I have a lot of folks suggesting letting it stay in the white and let time takes it's course. I dunno... -Doc

I got his extra fancy which even fresh out of the box looks really really nice. I started out with plain but upgraded quickly to fancy. After about a month, I went all in on the extra fancy. I'll try to take a pic of the wood and post it soon. --Doc

    Lamp Black

I scraped a bunch of my wife's candle jar tops, the undersides had quite a bit of lamp black. Added just a "touch" of olive oil and I was in business!

    Lamp Black

Whilst waiting for my jar of Prussian Blue transfer color to arrive, I decided to try a little lamp black. I raided my wife's collection of Yankee candle jars and yep, under the glass lids was quite a bit of soot or lamp black. It works like a charm!!!! -Doc

    Let the Games Begin!!!

I'm so excited to finally have my Kibler Colonial, 50 cal smoothie kit! The woodworking I'm pretty confident of and actually there isn't all that much to do. It will be the barrel browning I'm going to have to watch a few videos about. Waiting for my Prussian Blue transfer color to arrive...
