I'm so excited to finally have my Kibler Colonial, 50 cal smoothie kit!
The woodworking I'm pretty confident of and actually there isn't all that much to do. It will be the barrel browning I'm going to have to watch a few videos about.

Waiting for my Prussian Blue transfer color to arrive before I begin. I have everything I need, even bees wax but nothing I can us as a transfer color. Thank Gawd for Amazon and my local hardware store...

Do you own a candle, if so you have the period correct color transfer method going back hundreds of years.

Jarrow's inletting black. The stuff is a big mess but it works, and a little container of it lasts forever.

Cheap red lipstick from Wally World
Just an aside, buling, browning and fire blue and even ashfult go way back on guns. But consider left in the white on you’re barrel. Naval jelly gives a light greeting and it’s not any harder to keep from rusting then brown.many guns in the past had white barrels

I thought about leaving the barrel white.
I keep going back and forth though.

A while back , was trying to help a guy build his first m/l rifle from scratch. He was using Jerrows , and if application is sparingly applied , I like it best. , but If the student was using cheap lipstick ,his wife might have gotten the wrong impression , and applied a bat to his torso. The Jerrow's was on his clothes , hands , arms , and face. If it was lipstick............how to explain???????

I browned the barrel on my CVA Mtn Rifle when I was 16. There was no internet, no vcrs let alone videos to watch, and I didn't have a tutor. I did have a bottle of Birchwood Casey Plumb Brown, and heated the barrel across the burners on the electric stove. It sizzled when I swabbed it on, but made a nice satin brown finish that wasn't all pitted. 45 years later, that barrel still looks good.

The short barreled .62 in my avatar was wrapped with cotton rope, soaked with white vinegar, and kept wet for 24 hours. The result was an etched faux twist look that I then blued with Brownells Oxpho Blue and and cut back with steel wool. It looks good, but the Oxpho Blue isn't nearly as durable as the old Plumb Brown.

I am jealous. Can't wait to get my socks lined up. Plan on buying a Mountain Rifle from Jim. Should be a real hoot to assemble.

Have fun with your Kibler. What does your wood look like?

Mix a little black wood stain into some petroleum jelly and you'll have your spotting media.

I got his extra fancy which even fresh out of the box looks really really nice.
I started out with plain but upgraded quickly to fancy. After about a month, I went all in on the extra fancy.

I'll try to take a pic of the wood and post it soon.

Laurel Mtn Forge browning solution works great. Follow directions exactly. Do it in a high humidity place, bathroom with door closed and turn on shower periodically.

I appreciate it. Laurel Mountain Forge is probably the product I'll go with.

I have a lot of folks suggesting letting it stay in the white and let time takes it's course.
I dunno...
