    How did you get hooked?

Fess Parker. Need I say more? Love the flash and smoke of a flinter. Haven't shot anything else for years now.

    Moose hunting with the .54

Greetings from another Ontarian - further south, I'm afraid. JBMR: would that be the one with the rams horn below the nipple? If so, it's a darn fine gun. Congrats on the moose and winning the draw.

Has anyone used 1F in a rifle ?

Been shooting it in a 32 cal flintlock (have a choice of 1f or4f). Takes a bit more to hit to same point and more fouling, but works. 4f in the pan.

Two and a half foot drop at 100 yards?

Sorry if someone has already suggested this. I'm using a cell phone and the screen is small. I had the same problem with my Kentucky .32. It turned out Pedersoli had been generous with the height of the front sight and the ball never rose above the line of sight. If possible ( I'm fortunate...

    Witnessed Unsafe Behaviors

Count the number of barrels first. Fine if only 1 smoking. Some guns have 2. Bit of a jar when you catch yourself starting out of habit...

    half cock after firing?

Gave up blowing down the barrel when I bought a double rifle.

    My wife don't understand me

Maybe it's better this way. Not sure I want mine fully understanding me........

    New sights for Pedersoli Kentucky

As an afterthought changing the front sight to silver or copper is a good idea for hunting. Black shows up well on paper but not so well in low light/poor contrast settings. Thanks

    New sights for Pedersoli Kentucky

Thanks, Gentilmen. I think squaring the "v" might be the way to go. No problem with the front sight, but the back one is more of the problem. It looks fuzzy. As you say, a one load gun. Lowering the front sight isn't a problem. Shoots consistantly better than I can now.

    New sights for Pedersoli Kentucky

Good morning Gentlemen. I have a Pedersoli 32 cal Kentucky style flintlock. Lots of fun, but I'm not a fan of the rear sight it came with. It's a "V" shaped notch. This was never my favourite design. There is no adjustments to it up/down to it either. Gun shoots 6" low at 25 yards and is...

    Patch puller. Been there.....

    Skychief load question

I got that part. Soak as much as possible. Does it take a week, two, etc., on average, or is it "it depends...."?

    Skychief load question

I probably missed reading it, but how long should one soak a 1/2 in. Fiber wad in olive oil to get it saturated? Hope to do some load development for my fowling piece over the winter. Thanks.

This isn't supposed to happen, right?

Would fine steel wool or copper wool be safe for rifling? Read of it's use in smoothbores.

Is loading from the flask really that dangerous???

I should stay quiet, but..... I load from a measure because it makes sense to me. I don't blow down a smoking barrel because one of my guns has two barrels. But the only case I can find on the web is about an incident in the late 1800's, and a few cases during the Crimean war. Would that be...

    Traditional muzzleloaders only

Same here. When someone says "modern", I think "caplock".

Shooting shot from rifled muzzleloaders ( with mixed results )

I've tried this a couple of times out of two different guns with mixed results. The first time was out of a '70s TC flinter. Only had a kleenex with me for wadding. Square load of shot, 70gr of 3f. Fair pattern similar to a modified 410 unmentionable. Second time was using a 50 cal...

Carpet Tube shooting ?? With strange results........

Have you ever done a penetration test using, say 50 grains, of the three grades of powder? Should all burn up in a long barrel. You might want to swab after the 1f, though or you might need a tree to set the next ball.....
