    Ignition Woes

Since I started leaning the rifle to the right side and tapping the butt with my heel or toe, when I charge the barrel, it hasn't misfired at all. I did manage to pull some kind of varnish or hardened turpentine looking crud out of it too. I'm guessing it was a combination of both things.

    Ignition Woes

The cap pops every time. No, the first shot does not go off every time, unless I manually pour powder in the bolster. I just tried it again, and it fired three times in a row. I charged it, and tilted it to the side and tapped the bolster with a small rawhide mallet. That jarred powder into the...

    Ignition Woes

I hate to assume anything, but I assume mine is like this. I have a button type breech plug. I don't believe that would make much of a difference.

    Ignition Woes

A 1/32" drill slides through it. Should I drill it out with a 0.040" bit? When I clean, I use boiling water(I use a trough heater to boil it) and Dawn. I pull the access screw. I use a swab or jag and patch and pump until clear...ish water comes out. Then I switch to clean water and pump several...

    Ignition Woes

I bought a CVA Hawken. I got it CHEAP. It took a good bit of tinkering to get it to shoot. At first the hammer was slow. That was easy to fix. It just took cleaning and oiling. Next the barrel had a very rough patch of rust about halfway down. I tried every remedy I could find online, until...

Need to get rust out of my bore

My barrel had a really rough spot about halfway down. I had to use a mallet to pound a patched ball through that sesectioni thought it would shoot out, but it didn't. I even used cream of wheat as a filler several times, but it didn't work. This may be a bit extreme for you, but it worked for...

    Crazy Question Time

To me a Berdan primer is just a percussion cap with a short thick cup. I was planning to use cans for stock. I thought about making caps, but I thought aluminum can material would be too thick. I guess the thickness doesn't matter as long as it works. As far as loading Berdan cases goes, it...

    Crazy Question Time

I have a friend with a gascheck making punch and die. After looking at it I was thinking it wouldn't be that hard to make a primer cup punch and die. This would allow you to make Berdan primers using priming compound. Do you think if I turned a nipple that a small Berdan primer fit, it would...

    Swapping Barrels

I have a 50 caliber CVA Hawken. I'd like to swap the barrel to 32 or 36 caliber. Does anyone make a barrel that will drop in place, or do I need to order a blank and borrow my buddy's machine shop? Any ideas of where to order a barrel or blanks would be appreciated. Thanks

What is the big barrel in the Le Mat used for

It's my understanding it's a 14 gauge shotgun barrel. It should be loaded with buck, or buck and ball.
