Shotgunning with a muzzleloader took a religious turn

That’s very interesting. My wife is on the alter guild. I may have her snag a few wafers to try in my 10 gauge.

Best way to unload after an unsuccessful hunt?

I’m with the leave it loaded crowd.

Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium Sporter #2

I have an English sporting rifle made by them. I had it made over 20 years ago with 2 barrels. One is 12 gauge smoothbore and the other .72 rifled. I have been very happy with this rifle and carried it for many hunts. It was actually made by Craig Kern - but that was who they had make it for me.

    Lil Brass Frame Bench Rifle

Nice rifle. I’d like to follow you around. You find cool stuff.

    Just about fed up…

It’s an anomaly for sure. Once you figure it out it will make sense. My .50 GPR has always been as reliable as your ROA

What caliber and style for you?

None other than our very own Bob Gerard @PathfinderNC And thanks - I think it’s beautiful as well.

What caliber and style for you?

In Colorado, climbing up and down hunting elk, I’d take my .62 Yeager. It’s short, light, points well, and packs a punch. I’m also a fan of this .72 caliber English sporting rifle for the same reasons.

Who Hunts Reg Seasons With Their Muzzleloader?

I hunt year round with a ML. Deer season with my Jaeger or English sporting rifle. Duck and dove with a 10 or 20 SxS. Spring turkey, squirrels and other vermin with a .40 flintlock.

Wow! I am envious of these fabulous firearms you manage to find.

    Upland Bag Contents

This is my setup. I shoot a 10 gauge for ducks and a 20 for dove or quail. I just swap wads and the shot in the snake. I normally have a small spray bottle of ballistol/water in a pocket too.

    Rifleman's knife

That’s a beautiful knife. Yes, he does good work.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Had fun dove hunting with my little Border Terrier.

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

I absolutely take my nice guns out and shoot/hunt with them. If someone wants to just look at them, I get it because I like looking at mine. I just am not against using them as well. Someone pointed out what we all spend on things like cars that cost more and have a shorter useful life. I have...

    SOLD Large Confederate Style Bowie

Buy a knife from @Runewolf1973 with confidence. I have one of his knives that is wicked sharp. I laughed told him I don’t know how it got from Canada to Texas without cutting its way out of the box.

    Re-vamp the site?

I always look at the classifieds first, then over to the accessories to see if there is a cool knife or a new powder horn by @PathfinderNC. Then I move to the other sections…

    Carrying a pistol

I’ve never seen the need to carry a pistol for a finishing shot on game. I reload my rifle as soon as I shoot. The animal is either dead on the spot or has traveled. If it has moved, I give it time to bleed out and die, hence plenty of time to reload.

whats your favorite part of muzzleloading, what keeps you hooked?

I love the guns. Walnut or curly maple, rust blue/brown steel, engraving, wire inlay - works of art and the furthest thing from most modern firearms. I like the intimacy between the shooter and the gun - how closely we are connected - each shot carefully loaded. I like the nostalgia and the...

    Average Group

For me and where I live, group size is hugely dependent on what the wind is doing. On a calm day from the bench I can shoot 1” groups at 50 yards and 2-4” groups at 100 yards with my jaeger. If it’s windy (15-25 mph) then 50 yards groups open up and 100 yard shots are something I won’t do at...
