    Hello from Denmark.

Welcome from Texas! I hope your Scandinavian cousins and the Finns get past Turkey's objections and let them join NATO. Probably won't help you with your Black Powder firearms but, at least if the Russian fanaticism heads that direction, they won't have to go it alone like Ukraine with donated...

New guy thinking about an 1861

Midway and Taylor both have the 1861 in 36. The Taylor at $409 has the steel trigger guard and backstrap I prefer but, the Midway is $300 right now with brass backstrap and trigger guard. I scored a 1lb can of Triple Se7en FFFg so, good there. Caps are MIA so, until I figure that out I have a...

New guy thinking about an 1861

Mainly it's for recreational shooting so, stretching the powder charge and reducing the lead consumption allows more recreational shooting! Of course, at some point if I enjoy this type of shooting, an 1860 will join in the fun at some point! I know new guys tend to get the 1858 almost...

    Uberti or Pietta 1861 Navy?

Who makes these? Uberti or Pietta? With a 7 1/2" barrel I'm assuming Uberti with their non-MIM internals and apparently short arbor. In terms of price premium, it looks like they are $70 more expensive than similar models from out of stock sources with 'base' models of Uberti and Pietta. A...

    Uberti or Pietta 1861 Navy?

I am see both available at Midway for ~$340 which seems consistent with the "for sale" area here as well. Is there anything to recommend the Uberti over the Pietta? I want an 1861 with steel frame and 36 caliber and prefer the steel trigger guard and backstrap of the Pietta but, "Google" says...

    No patches/wads for revolvers?

Thanks! The YouTube I watched made it sound like he had a special Ruger that allowed him to load without wads or patches. I could see a Mini-Ball base swelling to seal the barrel like a patch but, I didn't realize a good lead ball would seal it too.

Colt 1861 availability and pricing? Or possibly an 1862?

I am initially looking for a steel framed Colt 1861 in 36 caliber. These seem to be really hard to source from my normal sources. I am not hard over that it has to be a Pietta or an Uberti but, I think a Pietta might be a better choice for me today with its heavier springs and generally lower...

    No patches/wads for revolvers?

I was watching some YouTube black powder videos and they mentioned not needing patches or wads to shoot. They were loading balls so, I questioned this being a reasonable way to load. Or, perhaps they had some 'special' cylinder mod to support this? Can you load without patches or wads in any...

New guy thinking about an 1861

Sid here and new to black powder. I have always had an interest in older black powder firearms, pre-cartridge, and now that centerfire ammunition is so expensive and hard to find I'm thinking about getting an 1861 Navy again. I'm looking for recreational shooting, not re-enactment or home...
