    Traditions Shenandoah Update

Hey Steve, Hope you get it working. Now that mine has had an overhaul it works great. Also, for the money I spent on the gun and the additional work I have a gun that is essentially custom, although it's quality is certainly not top shelf. But I am now glad I got it and think buying it was...

    Traditions Shenandoah Update

Hey Steve, Actually he did nothing to the lock. My lock worked fine. The problem was the breach plug. The hole in what he called a "Palmer" breach plug was simply to small. So the pan would ignite fine, but the main charge would almost never fire. So, he used a bigger plug, with a much...

    Traditions Shenandoah Update

Well, Got back my Traditions Shenandoah from a local guns smith. Originally, this thing basically did not fire. The pan would flash, but no boom. Now this thing is amazing. It fires instantaneously. In addition he did some carving on the wood and brass, shaved down the stock, crowned the...

    flint type german or english?

The German agates are much harder than the English flints and spark very well. German agates (or TC agates) are all I'll be buying from now on. Take care, john

    GPR Sights

Good morning all, Well I have decided on a happy medium. I order new open sights rather than the peep sights. They are very simialr to the buckhorn, but a bit more precisely made and the front sight has a white bead to help position your shots and the rear sight folds down for storage. I...

    GPR Sights

Thanks Steve. I find the Buckhorn a bit blurry as well. It is also somewhat crude and fairly imprecise. Not that it is awful, but I just think it could be better. At forty yards the sight overwhelms the bulls-eye on my target. And, with this particular rifle, my goal is not to be PC but to...

    GPR Sights

Greetings all, Am thinking about putting target sights on the GPR. Talked with Lyman and the suggested sights for this purpose were as follows: Front - 17A AEU Rear - 57 GPR Any thoughts or personal experience? Thanks again, jhn

    Advice Please

Thanks for the reponses everyone. I will try swabbing and not swabbing as a starting point and then go from there. The experimentation is what makes this fun. Thanks again, john

    Advice Please

Good afternnoon, I had a question regarding how frequently one should clean their rifle for best accuracy while target shooting. Some have indicated to clean after every shot with a wet patch. Others have indicated that you should use a "fouling shot" and then shoot 5 or so rounds for best...

    Beware Traditions

I think some of the confusion may be coming from the TC Hawken knock-offs, like Cabelas Hawken. I think its barrel is made in Italy by Investment Arms. Just a guess. Take care, john

    GPR is good

I agree as well. I am very happy with my GPR. If I were going to recommend a starting flinter for someone it would be a GPR. Take care, john

    Beware Traditions

It is not bashing to factually relay one's experience. In fact, I feel it is my obligation. And quite frankly I have been having repeated problems with vendors as well. Lying about shipping. Not taking responsibility for there errors. I believe the internet is allowing sellers to take some...

    Beware Traditions

Thanks to everyone who posted supportive comments. Again, my sole purpose here was to relay my experience for the sake of those looking to buy. My main issue here was not the gun, despite its obvious shortcomings, but to convey the terrible customer service. Problems are going to arise with...

    Beware Traditions

Thanks everyone for the input. Just for the record, there is no comparison between my GPR and the Shenandoah, and the GPR was $60 cheaper. Also, the GPR has an Italian barrel, similar/same as TC Hawken. Can anyone recommend a nice ramrod for each of these guns? I figure I can leave the...

    Beware Traditions

Good morning all, Well, I have tried to stay away from saying anything openly negative about Traditions, but after my conversation this morning I think it is necessary. As you may know I ordered a Traditions Shenandoah. After first receiving the wrong gun (Kentucky), I have found the gun to...

    First Fire with GPR

I haven't shot the TC Hawken, but my friend's Cabelas Hawken shoots real nice. I think you will be happy with both. I liked the 1:60 twist of the GPR and the understated furniture - black not brass. The latter is purely a personal aesthetic preference. Enjoy, I know I am. Take care, john

    First Fire with GPR

Thanks everyone. Dr. Boone, you are right and I do intend, at some point in the not too distant future, to buy a custom gun. Take care, john

    First Fire with GPR

Well, Took out a newly acquired Lyman GPR for the first time today. If you are new to black powder and want a nicely made off-the-shelf gun, I highly recommend the Lyman GPR. It fired every time but once (shot about 15 rounds) and grouped nicely at 40 yards (but needs to be sited in). It is...
