    .54 mini ball paper cartridge

Gotchya. I think for this kind of cartridge the paper isn’t really acting as a patch, so much as just keeping everyone thing together to speed loading. So to make that work, an undersized bullet would be required that still had an expanding skirt? I wonder if that’s getting into custom mold...

    Shortened 1-66 .45 rifle

Great! That sounds like a very fun gun! Any chance of seeing pictures of it? Thanks so much for getting back to me about it!

Wet vs Dry lube, and best of either for hot, humid climate.

By dry I meant something like a soft wax mix. Like what paper cartridges are dipped into. Probably not the best description to use.

    .54 mini ball paper cartridge

So I was watching Cap & Ball YouTube’s video on the Swiss model 1851 Feldstutzer rifle and saw in the construction of that rifles 1863 paper cartridges, that the bullet has a skirted hollow base like the minie ball, so immediately wondered how such a cartridge would do in my .54 Hawken with 1-48...

Wet vs Dry lube, and best of either for hot, humid climate.

What’s the pros and cons of a dry vs wet lubricant for patches and conicals, and what do y’all use? Does the situation dictate? Will one work in any situation whether summer or dead of winter? I’m down in East Texas not from the Coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s hot most of the year(no duh, it’s...

    The Big Thicket

Anyone ever hunt the Big thicket national preserve in Texas with a muzzleloader? I’m not to far from it and plan on taking out my Cabelas Investarms Hawken in .54 out this season for deer and hogs.

    Purge the butter

So, I have followed the advice I got when I first started muzzleloading to use bore butter for lube, protection, and “seasoning,” of the bore. My accuracy has slowly but surely degraded, thankfully haven’t shot this rifle all that much since I got it, and seeing a lot of the threads about this...

One piece stock for CVA Kentucky rifle?

Well worth the effort by the looks of it. How did you go about marrying the butt cap and muzzle cap? I’ve seen in the colonial gunsmith of Williamsburg movie he fits them straight then makes all flush with a file and sanding. Did you take a similar approach?

One piece stock for CVA Kentucky rifle?

One piece stock for CVA Kentucky rifle?

Do you still have the rifle? I’d love to see some pictures of your work if your willing to share. I think for now I’m going to glue the stock pieces together with some ornamental piece between them but I may later get a stock like you say, inlet and drilled for the ramrod, of prettier wood, to...
