Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

I'm looking online to find some swiss, but I am finding different brands. It looks like the german company makes some swiss in a blue red and black 1lb container as well as graf and sons in an orange and black container. which one is the more well known swiss? Or the one that is being...

Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

thanks for all the replies so far. given me some things to try out. I'm going to order some powder, but I'm torn between triple seven and swiss fff. seems like they both have good reviews. correct me if I am wrong but triple 7 is cleaner, but swiss is less corrosive. But which is more powerful...

Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

    1. yes i have smoked and lubricated the mold 2. I try my best to keep my casting very consistent. 3. i know the molds are getting closed. no fins, no wrinkles, no excess lead under spur plate. 4. I don't have a thermometer. wish i did, but all of my casts come out frosted with very sharp corners...

Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

I'll give the pure lead a shot seeings how I've never had problems before I tried to combine wheel weights. 45g is a lot but the .457 conicals loaded fine. even loaded with 50g for one shot for the heck of it with the 255 g conicals. I'll research 777 and see about using it. Is that brand as...

Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

yes I discarded probably the first twenty casts or more because of how picky I am. if a cast bullet so much as looks at me wrong it goes back to the pot. needless to say I am absurdly picky about what I let cool down.

Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

any clue to why there is such a wide range in diameter in my casts? never had that problem casting pure lead so maybe i just need to stick to that. also I've heard of swiss but never seen it for sale or any true black powder. always gotten goex or graff and sons from the club. where can i find...

Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

I recently have come into possession of one of kaido's 255 grain conical molds. he was very easy to do business with and sent some additional supplies to test and review. however i am in need of some opinions. I started casting with wheel weights and pure lead to try and get a harder conical...

    Who's got the best lube?

Time to put your secret lube recipes to the test in a head to head comparison. I'm looking for whose got the lube that can keep a muzzleloader running all day with no cleaning swabs if you're talking rifles and who can keep a cap and ball's barrel clean as a whistle and slick as snot. For cap...

What would your wad look like if you were keeping a hunting load?

    Ruger old army loads

That's about what I get with my colt 1860 and lemat. Lemat shoots about a 2 1/2 group at fifteen. I use a 50/50 mixture of beeswax and beef tallow then throw in a little olive oil. Smear that over the mouth but I'm gonna give wads a shot. Would I just heat that up and soak them in it, then...

I'm gonna swing by harbor freight and pick up those tools. I'll get y'all those measurements by tonight. I'll measure each chamber, the balls before tumbling, and after tumbling.

    Ruger old army loads

The term cast ring is very misleading there is not a physical protruding ring around the ball. Just a faint line that you can see where the Lee mold comes together. They really perform about the same I honestly can't tell the difference. Rolling them in tupperware is just a trick to all the old...

    Ruger old army loads

I wish I could be that precise with my ball quality, but I don't have the tools to get the measurements or weight retention. I just stick the balls in a Tupperware bowl and roll them around for twenty minutes to get rid of the cast ring and nipple. I have not had the cylinder checked for...

    Ruger old army loads

I'm seeing a lot of people recommending a 20-30 grain load with fillers. 1. What should I use for filler? 2. If that load shoots best is is still powerful enough for deer and hog? I want to work up a load for kadio conical in the future for hunting
