You may have Threshold Disease. When you go to another room to fetch something, your brain goes blank when you reach the THRESHOLD. Then you walk back to where you were and you MAY remember what you were going after.

    Back into antiques…

I have been shooting my original S. Hawken regularly and I am amazed at the accuracy. .54 cal with 60 grains at 65 yards. Head shot on this hog and he never moved. Not slant breech so I figure it's around 1855. When I hold this gun I can't stop grinnin! At the age of 83 I have had many various...

    Fake Hawken Rifle ?

I certainly bow to those who have been at this a lot longer than newbie me. Please let me rephrase that statement. I believe that SOME Hawken rifles had one piece breech plugs. This one does.

    Fake Hawken Rifle ?

I believe that all Hawken rifles had the "patent breech" where the breech plug, flash cup/cone and vent are all cast as one part. Please see attached photos of S. Hawken breech.

    Fake Hawken Rifle ?

Somebody paid pretty good for that rifle but it doesn't look like any S. Hawken I have seen. Recently I have spent considerable time on the internet researching everything I can find on original Hawken rifles and I have seen muskets similar to the one in this auction but they were not called...

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

This is from Wikipedia's description of the plot of the movie. " The caravan of settlers in their covered wagons would follow Wellmore's ox-drawn train of Conestoga wagons, as the first major group of settlers to move west on the Oregon Trail" I don't think John Wayne shot an Indian with a...

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

This scene is from an very early John Wayne movie filmed in 1930, "The Big Trail" about a wagon train headed for Oregon. This is a most impressive account of real Conastoga " Prarie Schooners", lots of 'em, and all the stuff it took to make a wagon train survive. Some of those wagons were huge...

    WANTED Original Hawkin.

I just listed a fully transferrable, Norrell full auto 10/22 trigger pack on Gunbroker Auction and Guns International. Trying to generate some gun funds. Anybody need to warm up their .22? Whoever said the search is half the fun might have been a lot younger than me! I'm in the last quarter...

    Buying Original?

GO ORIGINAL! If possible. There is a different feeling when you handle/fire an old original musket. I am shooting my original Short pattern Brown Bess and it's a grin!

    WANTED Original Hawkin.

I am seriously looking. Learning about "within reason". I have found one authentic Hawken, supposed to be for sale but the guy wants to talk to his family, etc. etc. I'm surprised that there are people who are trying to sell replica rifles and they will argue that they are "original". Would...

    Times change

I had a beat up '40 ford pickup I drove to school my senior year. There was a rack in the back window where I carried my 16 gauge J.C. Higgins single shot. The gun was always there, nobody ever said a word. Now they'd steal the truck and the gun. We took our .22s to Boy Scout Camp to work on our...

    My balls are wrinkly ;)

I can't imagine trying to cook a dipper of lead with sleet and snow coming down. Those guys were tough! I believe there were more balls involved than the ones being cast.
