First Timer's First Day at the Range

Hey James! Yes, I was at Elm Fork and you're absolutely about them catering to modern rifle shooters; but then, there aren't a lot of us ML'ers in Texas, it doesn't seem. And you're also right on about the 'military ammo' thing. It happened while I was there too. Do they always buy the...

First Timer's First Day at the Range

Thanks for the comments so far, guys. Yep, if I were shooting the beast from anywhere but the bench the positioning would be much easier. Our crapppy range doesn't allow anything except bench shooting, which is fine for getting sighted in, working out loads, etc., but not for field practice...

First Timer's First Day at the Range

Remember the first time you shot a muzzleloader? Maybe to bring back some memories, here’s my rather long-winded experience today. Today was my first day at the range with my new rifle. I’m totally new to muzzleloading, and really appreciate all the information I’ve gathered on this site...

    Lyman Peep on Cabela's Hawken?

Has anyone here put the Lyman 57 peep sight on a Cabela's Hawken? Which sight should I get...the GPR or the SML? I've just ordered the .54 for my first ML. Really looking forward to shooting and hunting with it. My 'ol eyes don't do too well with open sights so the peep oughta work out well...

    Left Hand Hawken?

Great call! I had looked at Cabela's earlier but it had slipped my mind. Gave it another look and, by golly, ordered the .54! Now if I can just figure out how to get a peep sight on it. I'm thinking the Lyman peep if it'll fit. They're both made by InvestArms so maybe it'll work without...

    Left Hand Hawken?

Hi guys, Who makes left handed Hawken-style rifles? I know Lyman makes the GP and GPH, but I can't find any others. Did T/C ever make their Hawken in lefty? I'm buying my first rifle and want a .54 lefty percussion ... my options???

    Great Plains Hunter vs. Deerstalker

Thanks for all the replies so far, guys. I've handled one of the GPH's, but not the Deerstalker. I'm thinking, coming from a traditional centerfire concept, that the straight butt on the Deerstalker (with the pad) would be easier to get used to. Honestly, I'll prob put a better recoil pad on...

    Great Plains Hunter vs. Deerstalker

Being a newbie, and being left handed, I've about decided to purchase either a caplock GPH or Deerstalker in .54 for elk and deer this year. I see that Lyman offers both of these in a lefty lock. My question is: Other than fit and finish, is there really much of a reason to get the GPH over...
