    Too small balls

Naw, they aren’t very accurate calipers. It’s an older ASP made .36, and those often take 380

    Too small balls

Update for all who showed interest in this thread and/or gave advice: I never did find my good calipers but it doesn’t matter, because the 380s came from TOTW and they’re obviously the proper size. So, just part of my learning experience and I hope none of you think your time was wasted. Thanks guys

They’re hornady from muzzle-loaders.com. Basically this thread is you members watching a newbie’s process of taking the long way of learning his older toy takes less common balls, that’s all. Much ado about nuthin

    Too small balls

Thanks for the advice and guidance. Since this is my first BP, I have much uncertainty and even trepidation so I appreciate the patience with which your advice is given. The measurements I’m getting from my wife’s hobby calipers are apparently useless, when I find my vernier calipers I’ll report...

Indeed! My missus already had a big laugh about this thread’s title

    Too small balls

Yes you are correct, I’m getting .380 and running with them. Meantime, I’m still looking for my good calipers. I appreciate the help and patience from all

Mine says “Lyman-middlefield conn” on the barrel...uh oh..😬😉

    Too small balls

Using the same calipers, ball measures .36, I’m looking for my good calipers. We just moved here, so they’re still in a box and idk if I can find them. Just ordered some .380s

OP wad? I have lubed wads

    Too small balls

All chambers read .37, so...I need .380 balls?

    All chambers read .37

    Too small balls

Reading other threads, I’m getting that pietta takes .375 and uberti takes .380 and ASP/Euroarms are closer to uberti. The balls are loose in the chambers, but too big to fit in barrel. I’m looking for my calipers now
  13. BPNOOB

    Too small balls

Absolutely certain it’s .36. It’s an older ASP made one, perhaps that explains it
  14. BPNOOB

    Too small balls

I ordered .375 balls for my 1851 .36, which are too small as they drop right into the chambers. I assume I need .380, but is it really dangerous to shoot using them?

How far down do you clean?

Newbie question time! Must I remove the nipples for adequate cleaning, or is it sufficient to just clean out the holes?

    #11 Percussion Caps

Is that a regional thing? My local big Walmart (so cal) no longer carries any BP supplies whatsoever

    Help with new 1851

I have an ASP circa 1977, from which I understand is closer to uberti than pietta

    Help with new 1851

THAT is almost the universal message I’m getting, ‘quit worrying and shoot the gun’! 😂😉

    Help with new 1851

I’m confused, is a ‘TC Hawken Flinter’ a multi shot gun?
