ML HUNTING IN REGULAR RIFLE SEASON

Up here in Wyoming we HAVE TO hunt during the centerfire season as there is no special muzzleloading season. Doesn't matter though, it's about the "hunt" i.e. tracking, locating, stalking skills anyway. Ain't the tool but the man behind the tool. Go for it! and good huntin'

    .50 cal prb on elk

I figured as much, Mike2005. Think I'll get plum handy with this gun then maybe get a .54, .58 cal drop-in barrel if I can find one OR.....another gun! Anyway, I REALLY like this gun and can hit what I'm looking at w/i 100 yards so if off to hunt in Nov. Got it down to .14 patch over 80 grains...

    nothing but problems

Elker... 250 yds! That's 2 1/2 times too far a shot for BP IF you had everything working perfect! Don't do it man! Borrow a centerfire rifle, go hunting, THEN go back and take yer time. Get it right. Our BP traditions demand that. The elk DESERVE that. There's a bigger picture here than...

I've found that for me...the stalk is everything. Getting as close as possible to an animal that is unaware that you're...

Irrefutable proof: lets document how effective PRBs are this fall.

Took my first BP mule deer (big doe) with .490 prb over 80gr. FFG at 60 yards. Went through at mid lungs and broke one offside rib. She dropped dead inside of 40 yards. Great hunt...canoed across the N. Platte River and injuned up on a herd of 15 or so animals. Belly crawled the last 50 yds...

    .50 cal prb on elk

Howdy Fellers/Gals I'm new to this muzzleloading. Been shooting a Hawken style Jonathon Browning Mountain rifle in .50 cal for a little over a year now. I just can't get enough! Hunted all my life in Wyoming (alas w/ centerfire rifles). Just harvested my mule deer with "Caitlin". I'm...

    Hello from Ireland

Welcome Croppy Boy! I too am a newcomer to this forum and a neophyte to blackpowder. I've been shooting a Hawken style percussion gun (JBM rifle) in .50 cal. for a year now and can't get enough! I too share an Irish heritage. 5th Great GrandFather came to the colonies in 1760 on Da's side...
