Welcome Croppy Boy! I too am a newcomer to this forum and a neophyte to blackpowder. I've been shooting a Hawken style percussion gun (JBM rifle) in .50 cal. for a year now and can't get enough!
I too share an Irish heritage. 5th Great GrandFather came to the colonies in 1760 on Da's side (Connely) and Ma's side came over in the early 1850's (Clingan)
I "blooded" my rifle with a mule deer this month and plan to hunt elk this November with it.
If you're ever in Wyoming, look me up......there is some fine country left in this state and many active muzzleloaders.
