    Sight Plane Alignment Problem

I'll be trying some of the latest checks and solutions next week. BTW Jason at Rice said he will definitely help me resolve this problem. I'm calling him tomorrow. Nice to deal with people who stand behind their product

    Sight Plane Alignment Problem

Ok gang I will try to respond to all as it would be discourteous not to do so Col B: this was my first (and last) build. I probably built the equivalent of about 3 rifles doing this one as I practiced every step before actually doing it,sometimes more than once. The wood carving didn't scare me...

    Sight Plane Alignment Problem

Well gentlemen thank you one and all for your insights. All your suggestions confirm pretty much my own diagnosis, it's a barrel problem. To answer some of your questions, the barrel drops cleanly into the stock with no pressure from the stock (I carefully kept the stock clamped to the barrel...

The problem I have is in order for the gun to shoot well I have a serious offset of the front to rear sight plane along the top barrel flat. The front site is almost to the right edge of the barrel flat and...

I am not sure what "import regs" you are referring to. I have ordered AF from TOTW and have received it thru the mail in NS.

    Gun Kits, ADifferent Twist

Yeah Richard, some people are funny (not ha ha)I wanted to learn scrimshaw , just as a hobby,so I offered a local guy who was good at it, real money just to look over his shoulder for a day (not even be taught). He flatly turned me down saying "I'm the only guy doing this around here and I want...

    Need Some Directions

Well gentlemen I have a two part question tonite. First I am in the home streth of my build (starting to brown things) and my question is , in addition to the barrel what other parts should be looking at browning. I am talking specifically about the lock itself. What parts of it do I need to do...

One More Try for Pix in Flickr

Thanks for your positive comments Tenn. I guess I've worked on this gun so long I had a vision in my mind's eye of what it was going to look like. Well it didn't meet my vision and seeing as how I may not be able to change the gun much I may have to change my vision. Cheers

One More Try for Pix in Flickr

Bogie I used Laurel Mtn Forge, Nut Brown 2 coats . Nothing else on it yet. I was thinking of trying to lighten some areas. Zonie had said to use brake cleaner so I'm waiting till he sees these pix and makes his pronouncement. HEY ZONIE, YOU THERE???

One More Try for Pix in Flickr

I'm suspecting you're right sir I may have to live with it. I was wondering tho if a judicious application of a well thinned sealer in the local area of the dark patches only would control the stain absorption and make it lighter. Any thought's on this? Cheers

One More Try for Pix in Flickr

Thanks for the compliment on the wire inlay , kaintuck, you should give it a try. Of all the skills I have had to learn to do this gun it was probably the easiest.I feel the finish is too blotchy (too much variation)and I am hoping to even it out some before the final finish goes on and I want...

One More Try for Pix in Flickr

Sorry JD I posted for some suggestions on the blotchy stain awhile back but had trouble putting up pix. The stock shape is not well shown in the photos and is actually a little more rounded than appears. I'm living with it anyway. The problem is the stain didn't take evenly. It's blocthy in...

    She Ain't No Beauty

Sorry but I forgot to mention the wood type. It is curly maple and a grade 2 (I think it was ) from TOTW. I'm hoping its not what Zonie says (altho the thought crossed my mind also) and that it's grease. I did handle the stock with bare hands after sanding (stupidly, without thinking). I think I...

    Material Source

I am planning on weaving some bag and horn straps. The ones I would like to do are the natural looking ones which I am told are made from jute. The question is does anyone know where I can obtain some jute or hemp weaving twine at a reasonable cost. Your help is appreciated.
