    Anyone Know...........Lock Manufacturer

This confirms what I always thought, which is the experts are right here on this board. As a side note, the barrel appears to be orginal as it is 16 gauge and is 42 inches long. It was not converted to the maynard tape primer but with a off set hammer that wraps over the top of the barrel. The...

    Anyone Know...........Lock Manufacturer

I recently acquired a Fowling piece that has a lock that has been converted to percussion. The Lock is marked "P.& E. W. Blake 1827 New Haven "". Also above the lock maker's mark is a mark I believe is "US". That may be wishful thinking. Question is Does anyone have any information on this...

    Hunting with real BP

Rat, I'll be more than happy to post a photo of the Remington as soon as I sort out my records on how to post photos on this board. I had a very good weekend of shooting. No struck ram rods. That was the good news. The bad news was I lost my ram rod. I ask you how can anyone shoot their ram...

    Hunting with real BP

Roundball. I did read the articles from your links. Very informative. Thanks for sharing. Since the flints were too short, I used an idea from one of these article to stuff some material,ie leather, wood, etc to move the flint forward. I made a stiff copper strap that I wrapped over the...

    Hunting with real BP

Rebel, thanks for your input. Today showed great progress. No struck ram rods. Thanks again...... Even tho my venture to purchase flints from the only Gun Shop in my area to carry them didn't work as hoped, I did make progress there as well. It turned out the only flint he had was from TC...

    Hunting with real BP

Rebel, Thanks.....""A dry patch will stick in the bore nearly every time."" I think I proved that today. What material is the cleaning patch made of that you use? What size cleaning patch do you use? What do you use to dampen the patch? Do you use a cleaning jag or some other tip?

    Hunting with real BP

Roundball, Thanks.......My flints are not that sharp. They would not cut your finger and likely would need some pressure to cut cheese. How many shots does one get from a flint? How do you judge when it is time to swap flints so you do not have loss of flash? New flints for me tomorrow and...

    Hunting with real BP

Another day messing around with my rifle with some possible progress but frustrated with my results. Being more aware of what is happening, I do believe when the powder in the pan is ignited I do obtain proper ignitation in the barrel. This AM I could not get sufficient sparks with the flint...

    Hunting with real BP

After lurking here for some time without posting I have decided its time for me to post. I need help. To briefly introduce myself, I have owned and fired cap powered rifles, ie .36 KY and .50 TC Hawken, on and off for the past 25 years. Since I have been retired now for 5 years, I decided I...

    Powder Charge

I was under the impression that 1:66" twist did not shoot conicals well, only only PRB. I have been tempted to try them in my 1:66" barrel as well. Anyone else have any experience? :peace:
