    Staining a pistol kit

Hello, I am ready to stain the wood on my kit and need some help. The wood is walnut, the stain I have Colonial Maple. I am trying, or as close as possible, to match a rifle with maple stock. Should I be the maple stain on Walnut or is there a better suggestion. Thanks, Firedanse

    Flintlock Pistol Kits

So, this sounds like something I can actually do. I'm looking forward to starting. Anyone ever try to fly with one of these kits in their baggage? I'm headed to Florida to spend time with the folks and am taking the project with me. My guess it's not something they would let me carry on...

    Flintlock Pistol Kits

Hi again. Tell me about these files I need. I'm getting to understand the sandpaper side of it. I tend to jump into things so am trying to line up the ducks before I get started. Do it right the first time. I'll go to the suggested supplementary sites too. Firedanse

    Flintlock Pistol Kits

Let's see if I can accurately describe it. Stock is carved but roughly. Trigger, ramrod and barrel are in place. Flintlock assembly is not. Not sure about the finish. Seems like the brass is roughly done and needs something more. Barrel is hard to tell, due to inexperience of me. The...

    Flintlock Pistol Kits

Hi again, after a 3 month back order, I finally got my kit. The stock comes with parts already installed. Instructions are vague about sanding. It talks about filing from metal to wood. I think I need experienced suggestions. Don't want to over sand. Thanks for input. Guess it won't be a...

    Pistol Kits

Well, yes, based on a recommendation I was looking at Pecatonica for a kit. As I said, they have the curly maple to match the existing rifle. So, let me ask, what takes so much time (ie. 150+ hours)? I don't want to get into something that I am over my head. I had wanted the "homemade"...

    Pistol Kits

This is great information! I've been looking into stock information. Anyone familiar with the different grades of curly maple? That is the stock of the gun I am trying to match (mind you, without actually seeing the rifle). THe premium grade has "extra curl". Need more information on this...

    Pistol Kits

Okay, this sounds like something I can do. Sand paper, files, screwdrivers. All things any well equiped woman has in her tool box. It also sounds as if I get stuck, there is help out there. Thanks.

    Pistol Kits

Holy cow! Not a project for the faint of heart. You think a beginner can handle this?

    Pistol Kits

I would like to assemble a Kentucky pistol for a Christmas Gift. Can anyone suggest where I might find one, at a reasonable price, that is easy for a beginner to put together? Prices on line are of considerable range and I am not sure what I should be looking for. Advice is welcome.
