Hi everyone I am currently useing .495 balls in my 50 cal. I don't know the patch thickness but the assebly dose go down the berrel with out trouble. My questions are: Can your patch and ball be too tight for optimum accuracy? Should I be experementing with different combonations? Is it a...

    Lyman GPR sights loose

The adjustable sight for my GPR is loose (not the dove tail) it moves from side to side slightly pivoting on the hinge pin, than dose not return to center (stays off to one side or the other till you push it back). I tried to stretch the spring slightly (did not work). Any thing that I can...

    Colt vs Rem

Thank you all for responding, this is fascinating, I haven't herd any one say that they would prefer the Remington. From the comments about having to clean the Remington more often sounds to me like the top strap might be a hindrance. Maybe the top strap contains the blast...

    Colt vs Rem

Here is a question just for fun. If you were a soldier during the later part of the civil war, and you could get your hand on an 1860 (Colt) or an 1858 (Rem), but not both, which would you choose and why? To keep things somewhat fair let's assume that you can only carry one cylinder with you...

    Barrel Twist

I guess another question I have, since you’ve been so helpful is, should I go with flint or cap? I have a little experience with cap but none with flint. I would really like to shoot flint but I live in the Pacific North West and the weather can get damp during the hunting season.

    Barrel Twist

Thank you all for the tips. I don't know if any one has an idea about how deep the rifling on a lyman great plains rifle / hunter is, but thats what I am plannig to get.

    Barrel Twist

My experience with muzzle loading is limited. I was wondering about barrel twist all I know is the twist is how many inches it takes the rifling to complete one revolution. It seems that a 1:60 is best for balls and a 1:48 is best for bullets is this correct? If so can I compromise? I plan...
