Beautiful 52* / low humidity weather at first light this morning...retested the .58cal Virginia to re-check / fine tune sight adjustments for my deer hunting load. And this trip I hung up an old blanket on the left side of the shooting table to block the morning sun / side light from streaming in under the pole shelter and hitting my sights.

Made a few more file strokes on the sights to really fine tune the 50 yard zero, and this gal turns in excellent 1.75" groups while sitting down leaning against a shelter post like it was a tree. I’m sure if it was benched it would shoot a single "ragged hole"...extremely accurate .016" deep “round bottom groove" barrel by Rice.

100grns Goex 2F, .62cal Oxyoke wad, .022" Oxyoke patch, .570" / 279grn Hornady round ball.
This mid range powder charge chronographs at 1350, with a SD of only 6 fps.
(For comparison, a 90grn charge of Goex 3F produced almost 100 fps more)

Next time she makes sparks, it should mean a good buck came through cruising for Does.

Well thats great and all and I'm glad for ya but I don't see why this is posted in the Hunting forum. All your other range reports were posted in the Flintlock rifle forum, where they belong.

Won't be all that much longer either...now that we're in July...and I hate July/August heat & humidity...all of a sudden Labor Day / the start of Fall is in plain sight.

Going to finish work with the .62cal smoothbore this month to document the 3 best shot load combos for doves (#7.5's) squirrel/crows (#5's) turkey (#6's), and get that behind me.
