I'm new to this and have a 1:24 twist barrel. I'm considering a Lee Mold with the 320 REAL in .50 caliber. Has anyone here had any good or bad experiences with that configuration?

Just got back from the range my 1:20 White 50 cal. Mtn carbine finally came around with the Maxi hunters 350 gr. I would suggest a long bullet in a fast twist any shorter or round balls were all over the place. For reference the Maxi hunter is .756 long

Twist rate dictates, or at least limits projectile choice. A conical bullet is what you want and the Lee REAL is a conical. However, how well it fits your rifles bore will be a major factor in how accurately it shoots. If it is loose enough to seat with thumb pressure, accuracy will be so-so and you have to make sure it doesn't move off the powder charge as well. If that's the case with your particular REAL, you can paper patch it or Beagle it (Google this) for a better fit. Don't ask how I know....

The twist is fine for a REAL bullet.

I wouldn't drive it too fast lest you force the bullet past the rifling.

I shoot 450 grain lead conical bullets in my 1-24 twist. If I were you I would check out a company called No Excuses muzzleloader bullets. They sell a sample pack so you can match the diameter of your bore. Never shot a Lee Real bullet. I shoot real bullets in my fast twist muzzleloaders. I pour my own so I have a variety of custom molds. No excuses gives you a more custom bullet. Pretty standard load in my rifle is 80 grains of Swiss 2f followed up by a 54 cal (little bigger diameter than a 50) lubed wool wad topped off by your conical. Will probably give you decent results with a Lee Real bullet also? Here’s a picture of a test group out of a 1-28 twist Green Mtn barrel on a custom Underhammer rifle. Sight has been corrected for POI. The group was shot from a rest at 100yds. Peep sight.
