roaddog:
Hey, from the looks of your picture you shoulda took the name ROADKILL! :haha: :haha:
( you do have a sense of humor I hope?)
You are going to give us a range report on that .45 aren't ya?
My e-buddy and fellow black powder shooter in South Africa tells me Pedersoli is very popular in S.A. and the quality is first rate.
By the way I know what your thinking and it's already been done.
yeh, I've been called maximouth, maxipad, maxibutt and much worse. :haha:

I might have to quit smoking my rifle for the next eight weeks but, it doesn't mean I have to quit buying.

Roaddog I have two pedersoli made shotguns, doubles from Cabelas and they are very well built. I want a flint rifle also, maybe a 54 cal.Keep us posted on your progress and don't worry about the Teamsters they have a knack for finding people if they get the right address to start with. I owned a Pedersoli Jaeger in flint (had the percussion lock but only fired it a few times before I switched to the flintlock) and that little flintlock of theirs seemed as fast as any percussion, sparked every time the rock hit the steel and the lock action was as smooth as glass. Some folks frown upon foreign manufactured guns but the several Pedersolis that I've owned have been very pleasing to shoot and to look at. Even my old San Paolo(could've spelled that wrong) 1803 Harpers Ferry was a good shooter. Good Luck on the build. Jim James, fellow Missourian

I called up Dixie gun works this afternoon, they gave me the UPS tracking number for my frontier rifle. I hopped over to UPS web site and had a peak, it's supposed to be here tomorrow afternoon. The one little problem that I'm having is that I never told my wife that I was getting the rifle and she should be home from work around the same time UPS makes their rounds . I sure hope that UPS is early and she's late.

Uhmmmmm...sort of like being in a dark locked room, pulling the pin on a hand grenade to throw it out a tiny window and dropping it on the floor in the dark :: ::

It's always a good idea to have the "doghouse" prepared for those hasty retreats us husband's seem to make at the insistence of our devoted wife... Don't press your luck, roaddog...

What are you talking about, my frontier rifle? Hell, I had that old rifle for years. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

good luck, :haha: :haha: :haha: All kidding aside, didn't someone post something about using Triple 7 in a flintlock somewhere on here? Though I think you'd still have to prime with real black powder... Don't use the T7 unless you know for sure...

One of the guys in the club who shoots a T/C flintier, swears on using a double prime charge of FFFFg down the barrel (somewhere in between 6 and 10 gr.) and then puts Pyrodex P. over the top of it. He doesn't seem to have anymore misfires than anybody else, but the problem is I don't have any FFFFg either

"Seek and ye shall find" I hunted everywhere and finally found some.

You're all set now...

I use Goex FFFFg for all my priming...and I've used FFFg in a few different calibers for a couple years now, and it's been fantastic...fast, clean, and accurate.

Recently got a .58cal barrel and decided to start right out with Goex FFg due to the large size of the bore & ball, and it's also been outstanding.

Enjoy !!

So Roaddog how dose the old rifle look are you happy with the way the frontier is built ? Rocky /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The wood on the gun is flawless. The lock seems to be just fine, I was out this morning and shot in about 15 times (no misfires). It was shooting about 12 inches low @ 50 yards but the windage was right on the money. I brought home and did the math, it turns out that I'll have to grind .172th. Off of the front site, I took it off and threw it in a box, and grabbed a Silver Blade front sight. I ground it to the height needed. I just got back from trying it again, I fired it about 20 times (10 times with 30 gr. and 10 times with 45 gr.) it's on the money at 50 yards with 30 gr., shooting a 10 shot group just about one inch in size, with 45 gr. it shooting about two inches high.

For being an off-the-shelf flints, the ones I picked up at Cabela's are too bad for having 35 shots on it and the way it looks may go another 20 shots before it needs to be napped.

The Silver Blade front site that I replace the original with was .080 thick.

Over the chronograph it was shooting 1210 fps with 30 gr. of FFFg and 1470 fps with 45 gr. of FFFg
