What is the difference between regular #11 caps, and magnum #11 caps?
Will they harm the gun? (probably not, but I'm just curious why they made them, and so I bought some.
Thanks...Travis

They give a hotter, bigger, flash than standard caps. CCI Magnums is all i ever use. No they will not harm your gun, but they do give more reliable ignition.

What Rebel said, although I have used regular CCI #11 caps for target shooting and plinking and they have been just as reliable in my rifles as the Magnums. That said, I still use the Magnums, for hunting, for peace of mind if nothing else.

My Scout which is a traditional styled inline with no breech plug has a really long nipple and the magnums get the flame down there pretty good. That rifle had very sketchy ignition and they helped fix it so if you have a rifle that with all other problems eliminated try some can't hurt.

I also use them when hunting with percussion guns. My sidelocks work fine at the range with standard caps and I'm sure would work fine with regular ones but it is just a little added security I guess.

Being that I have been using Pyrodex (although regrettably) I've found the CCI magnum caps to be much more reliable due to their hotter ignition.

When the Caplock guns became popular, Black Powder was all there was to shoot in them.
What bacame the #11 cap was more than adaquate to fire the guns reliably.
When the new Black Powder replacements were designed, IMO, the prime desire was to develop a powder which had a higher flash point and was not a class A explosive. This would reduce transportation costs and Insurance costs for the dealers.
I think little thought was made about the increase in hang fires and missfires.

As people started using these new powders it bacame appearent that the number 11 cap was not doing the job.
CCI created a new hotter cap to help reduce this hang fire/missfire problem and in the spirit of our modern times, named it MAGNUM!

The Magnum caps are totally interchangable with the standard number 11 cap on any gun built to use that size. :yakyak:
