#11M Percussion Caps

Can someone tell me if #11M caps are different than #11 caps and how ? Thanks

Magnum can mean different things (not the wine bottles this time). In one category it can mean more powder. In another it means bigger and more brass. What's bigger in caps?

Comparing standard caps to magnum caps, you will not see a difference when shooting.

The magnum caps are supposed to be hotter. When they first came out some people complained that they weren't as accurate, but I have never found any difference

#11 standard cap - 6.53 cc of gas at 3,024 degrees F when fired.

#11 magnum cap - 7.59 cc of gas at 3,717 degrees F when fired.

U.S. #2 musket cap - 14.36 cc of gas at 3,717 degrees F when fired.

#209 shotgun primer - 21.98 cc of gas at 3,024 degrees F when fired.

#200 rifle primer - 11.68 cc of gas at 3,024 degrees F when fired.


They were made when people complained about Pyrodex hang fires and misfires. Not really needed with real black powder.

My understanding for years has been Magnums for BP substitutes and regular for black powder.

If there were only one auto manufacturer, they could produce a car that would only start 20 days out of the month.

And the buying public would be happy to purchase it.

Complaints would abound, but the buying would continue.

Why spend the money to make something 100% functional when 66%, May or May not work, still makes the company money.

Well, I have an old carton of 1000 CCI # 11 caps, out of which about 300 to 400 have been fired some years ago without a single misfire on the cap's part. They seem plenty dependable to me!

Like everything else sold to the American public.

Ain't that the truth. The same with food, reduce the quantity and quality and raise the price.
