Got out early this morning playing around with my Caywood 12 ga english game gun an have found a load that Im very happy with an I think I will stick with it for turkeys. I might could get more holes in the paper with smaller shot but I am a fan of larger shot. I measured off 40 yrds with a 100 ft tape so I wouldnt be guessing with the range. the following load is what I like the best. 110 gr of FG and then a 12 ga wonder wad. on top of that I put a 12 ga over powder card then 110 grs of copper plated #4s topped off with a thin overshot card. I shot several rounds at each yardage an It gave me very consistant patterns. Danny Caywood jug choked this barrel full for turkeys an it shoots dead on point of impact, he did a great job for me. This pattern shoots nearly as good as my modern 12 ga that has a super full choke so of course Im very happy with it an I feel just as confident with it in my hands as any modern that I own

Curiosity is killing me!

I'm wondering how it will shoot with 2f, mostly because I know diddly about jug chokes. But 1f really tightens my patterns in cylinder bores. I guess I'm wondering how much the 1f "tightened" your pattern through the jug choke, if that's what's going on at all.

the only difference that I noticed with FFG was it had a little more kick. Being that I have enough FG to shoot for several yrs I will shoot it an save my FFG for my .54s. Patterns was just as good with FFG though

That would do the job, I am sure that is extremly good considering your using 4s, I would be tickled to death if mine shot #4 that well. I havent tried it but it shoots #6 a lot better than #5.

It looks like you have a real turkey weapon there (But don't call them in to 10 yards distance or there would be turkey burger)! :haha:

here's my take on your patterns.

40yrds= dead with some flopping involved
30yrds= dead maybe a kick or two while standing on his neck
20yrds= pretty dead, probably didn't know what hit'em
10yrds= "well mr. game warden he had a head last time i saw him before i pulled the trigger. i looked around for it but all i could find was a strange red mist on stuff and some other bits that looked like ravioli. it's cool though, i was just gonna mount the tail feathers anyway."

good job, now go bust wattles this next spring!

If you are happy, that is all tha counts. Now, if Danny gave you that charge reccomendation, I ain't gonna argue with him. I'll relate my experience. With my Brown Bess (really more of an 11 ga.) I use 75-80 gr. of 2Fg and get great patterns. And it is probably more comfortable to shoot than what you are experiencing. But, like I said, if you are happy, I'm happy.

All Danny told me to do was start low an go up till I got the pattern I was happy with an that is what I did. I have not recommended this charge to anyone but just told what shot best out of MY smoothbore. Im very happy with it an it is very comfortable for a fat boy like me to shoot. Im glad you like FFg in yours an it shoots really well in mine an I even tried some FFFG but did not get as good of patterns so Fg it is in ole wattlebuster till I try or see something that will do better
