Saturday’s weather was a little nicer than I expected. My daughter agreed that she would go to the gun club with me and run the traps so I could shoot my New Englander 12 ga. The payment to her was to let her shoot the 50 bird sporting clays course with her modern gun before we tried the skeet field with BP. I have not shot the New Englander in a while, probably since dove season because my shooting bag had some preloads set up for my favorite dove load. Sometime since then, I bought some Ballistic Products mini nitro cards (.070-.080 thick) and have not take the chance to try them. I set up about 30 preloads using 60 gr. FFFg, one mini nitro, 1 oz of #9’s and an overshot card. I know, I should have patterned the load first but it was a quick, spur of the moment, just because it was a nice day on the weekend, grab and go type of trip. I was very surprised at how well this load seemed to perform. The T/C has the screw in choke tubes, the mini nitro slides through the IC choke easily but fit well in the bore. I recovered a few spent wads and they look real good, doing the job they are suppose to do. As soon as I get the chance I am going to experiment with these cards some more and see how they respond. I want to try FFg and also load them a little heavier until they fail and then try two cards.
