I just found a 12 gauge full choke barrel on an auction
site from toledo arms made for a t/c renagade. My question
is would this be a better choice for turkey hunting or
should I get the 62 cal drop in barrel from green mountain.
I am pretty new to this and dont know if the 12 gauge could
also fire round balls or not,if not then I think I would
like the 20 gauge for that reason sorry for the long post
just looking for some advice thanks

With the .12 ga full choked barrel you are going to find that it is hard to get the .12 ga wads past the choke. Some people use the felt wads which go through the choke easy, and then spring back into shape. Some people use a .13 ga wad, but then it doesn't fit tight at the bottom. And getting a plastic shotcup past it is near impossible if you ever wanted to use it for waterfowl with steel shot. You can shoot a round ball out of it, the ball just needs to be small enough to go past the choke. If it will go in, it will come out. :m2c:

Both will work fine on turkeys, your average shot is going to be well within the range of both gauges...

I dont' really understand choked barrels on muzzle-loaders, when you consider great patterns can be had with an open bore...just not the best thing since sliced bread to my mind.

I'm afraid I'd go with the 20 just to stay away from the choked barrel...and on Turk a long shot-collum is no disadvantage. Like the man said, the 20 will work fine, and throw a big enough round-ball to do whatever damage you want to do with that!!

if you have the choice go with the open bore .
12 or 20 both are IMO very good turkey gages
