Try loading your powder charge , wasp nest , wet cushion wad then your slug and put a thin shot card on top to hold the slug in place.
I use the pinch of wasp nest if I’m hunting or planning on leaving my gun loaded for awhile so the olive oil from the wad won’t contaminate the powder.
I got better groupings from my 16 gauge using this method with a roundball than I did with a patched ball.
