1803 Harpers Ferry Barrel

Has anyone removed the part under the barrel that the ramrod pipes are attached to? Long story short I am thinking about using the barrel from a Navy Arms gun for another project but after messing around with it I'm not sure I can remove it. Any suggestions would be greatly apperciated.

I have one of those myself & it looks like the rib is just soldered on. Keep in mind I'm just guessing!
